For anyone that is interested, Joann Fabrics has their blackout (drapery liner) material on sale for Labor Day (until weekend of 9/11/10). As I understand it, this is a popular choice for home theatre folks for projection screens. It looks like it would make a nice portable screen for indoor laser shows as well.

I am ordering some of this material (54" x ?# of yards), in pursuit of having a screen stitched together to hang between the scaffords next year at SELEM. I'd be interested in placing my 2W RGB in the balcony to allow for this, or we hang this at the back of the auditorium as an alternative?

Blackout Type I - thin, light material that will allow for images to be seen from the rear as well.
Blackout Type II - heavier material that does not pass any light (green laser pointer direct on material was not visible from the other side).

It's on sale at $3.00 a yard. I will get this stitched together once the size and type are determined, but I need to confirm this in the next couple of days. I may opt for the lighter material, in support of front/rear option and also being lighter to hang.

I'm being told this material goes on sale 1-2 times a year, so I'm wanting to get this purchased now.

12' x 12'? Bigger? Please let me know your thoughts. *retardo

Well, I'm not going to be available very much over the next couple weeks. I'm stuck in southern Illinois for the next week on a business trip, and I have very limited Internet access out here. :( And when I get home, I'll only have a day or two before I'll be leaving for Florida for this year's ILDA conference, which is being held on board a cruise ship. :D So while I'm sure it will be a great time, that will be another week that I'll be out of touch.:o

Nevertheless, I wanted to start a thread for people to share their suggestions regarding SELEM. This year was an incredible event, and due to the size of the crowd we had some unique challenges to overcome. And while I thought it was a successful event overall, there are certainly areas where we can improve how we do things. So please share your thoughts on this matter now, while everything is still fresh in your mind. I want to capture as much feedback as I can. Later, when I'm back home again, I can pull everything together into a master list and start working on the plan for next year.

One thing I already checked on is the venue availability. And unfortunately, it looks like we're going to be stuck with the same weekend again for next year. If we try to do it a week earlier, we won't be able to extend the event. (Many people suggested we start the load-in on Thursday, so we'd have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to play.) So if we want to make SELEM longer, we'll have to stick with that third weekend, just like this year.

If you thought something went well this year, tell us. And if you thought something should have been done better, definitely tell us! I'm looking for all kinds of feedback, and I'm not worried about being offended, so please be brutally honest with your suggestions. (Sometimes that's the only way to get your point across.);)

In other news, I wanted to let you all know that I'll be bringing a handful of FB3 and LD2000 systems to demonstrate at the event.

At some point during the meeting, I'd like to show all of you QuickShow 2.0 and also where we are at with the 3D portion of our BEYOND software for laser professionals. I believe Adam set aside some space and time for this, but I don't yet have the details.

As my luggage permits, I'll be bringing mouse pads, stickers, and T-shirts. But please let me know if there is something else that you'd like me to bring.
