Ok, I am starting to gather parts for my first projector and am going to be asking some help from you guys. First I am going to list parts and pictures of what I have accumulated so far to build this. I know I'm going to need a lot more parts and a lot of advice on how to go about building this. So far, I have a enclosure for the whole sytem ], a 445nm laser in a z-bolt heat heat sink and one of these driving it http://cgi.ebay.com/High-Power-Laser...#ht_500wt_1154 . I know it is ttl an will want to upgrade to analogue but its all I could find when these diodes first came out. To power the blue and any other things other in the laser Im planing on using a computer power supply from radio shack. Does anyone have a better suggestion?

Some other pieces that i have acquired are a 300mw laserwave green that I bought from a person on here in the buy/ sell section. Which I seemed to get a good deal from!

For dichros, I have only have 2 mounts so far (I hope are usable ) that i bought off of ebay for like 25 bucks a piece. They are spectra physics 2 adjuster mounts with laser mirrors installed in them already. I have no clue if the mirrors are usable for anything that I am doing. So here comes the first question I have, What dicrhos should i get that will work with this 455blue 532green and unknown red. the peices of glass in them do not seem very large in them.

Next question is can someone suggest a red of some type that I can get for the 300-400 dollar price range? I know I need a Lot more red but well 300-400 is all i can afford right now(not really but probably can). And that will probably be one of the last things to buy unless my job picks up (construction industries)

Ok, For galvos I was just thinking of taking the ones I have out of my cheap rgy projctor now to just get this thing up a little faster than waiting to buy something better. And once I do it will probably be a higher scan rate chinese rate ones. Is there some type of board to use instead of the dmx board that i have them connectecd to at the moment or should i reuse that to? Not sure if it has a blue option on it. One more thing is do most of these galvo blocks have the same height because I would rather wait on getting better ones then changing things dramatically down the line to make something else work with what I have setup.

One question on how do I get all the lasers to be at the same height. Do I have to buy metal shims and just try different combinations or somethings? Dont you want all your laster fimerly mounted on the base plate for heat and from them from flexing and stuff? Do I need to take exact measurements and get shims machined?

Some other random questions as of now are about sound card dacs. I ordereded the sound sound card and it came (dealsxtreme or something ) but I tried ordering from http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_d...ection_Amp.php an have not received any of the parts yet. Does anyone have experience from them? Not even sure if it charged my card or not. I rarely use google checkout. Is there another place to get a kit from thats about the same price?

Ok last thing I can think of right now because it is getting late is can anyone recommended a site for all these small electrical connection plugs and stuff from because radio shack sucks and would rather not deal with there small selection and nosey employees

I know there are a lot a grammar errors and crap. Please forgive me im a construction worker not a english major.

This should be easy to figure out but I just can't find the answer.

I'll be mounting my galvos this weekend and they arrived disassembled. I was looking at them the other day and it dawned on me, there is no notch or anything in the block or on the galvo motor. I can't figure out which way the mirrors should be facing or how deep into the block.

The beam comes into the bottom(y) mirror which I understand should be about 45 degrees or so to direct the beam to the top(x) mirror and then out. Are the beams combined and aligned through the dichros and then the galvos adjusted in sort of the same manner?

What I mean is do you adjust the deflection and placement of the y mirror to direct the beam into the x mirror then out to an arbitrary target then lock them both in?

I'm probably just being dense about this but I haven't seen a single mention of how to install them in the blocks, and I've looked. I've managed to answer a lot of my questions just searching around but this one has stumped me for a couple days now and my aluminum base is coming tomorrow. :)

Never heard this mentioned over here so I thought I'd post it.

Pangolin produce a FREE application that allows you to instantly dim your screen for laser displays so you can better see the display rather than beign dazzled by the brightness of the monitor (or having to mess around with monitor settings).

Its called Pangobright and whats more it dims EVERY window on the PC not just Pangolin software so no matter what other software you might be running, there will be no nasty sudden bright changes between windows.

It works by sitting in the system tray as an icon and then allowing you to adjust monitor brightness with a simple slider.

I've copied this off the Pangobright forum its a simple animation showing how the slider works:

It can also work across multiple monitors and allow individual adjustment of each.

It is downloadable from here: http://www.pangobright.com/

Hi,

I'm all set to start laying everything out for my scanner and the website I was going to order the 1/2" aluminum plate from is having problems. They were the only supplier I found online that would let me go 16"x16". Maybe I just found all the odd sites but everyone else wanted to go in multiples of 12".

Where are you guys getting the aluminum? Online? Locally? I did have one machinist that wanted $100 for a 16" square of 3/8" and I'm not doing that.

Any thoughts or is it just one of those things where you get it where you get it and there are no real deals?

I have connected my QM2000 via the 1/4inch with resistor mod per documents on pangolins web site. (using only pins 1(X) and 2(Y) and ground) This becomes single ended this way. The problem I am experiencing is the Y input to the ADAT is down in signal. To the point where I set the X axis to 62 and Y to 100 to have proper size. I have proved it isn't the ADAT as if I swap the X Y channel inputs the problem follows Y. I have ohmed out and even changed the resistors in the cable that was made even though they were correct same problem. I have now shared the exact same ground point for the signal single ended for X and Y same problem. It acts like the Y drive doesn't have enough output when terminated with the ADAT. To the projector it is just fine no problems.

I am thinking I'll just change reduce the resistance inline till I get equal balance, but would really like to know what is going on.

The picture EE through the ADAT or layed off to tape looks just fine no other issues except the reduced Y output.

Ideas?

EDIT: wow butchered that title not sure how that happened thought I went from QM2000 2 ADAT, to QM2000 ADAT connections. Left some crap behind sorry it is a QM2000 not the ultra secret advanced 20002.

Hi all,

I am looking for a show (Mamba, QS or LD2000) designed for RGB and green sattelite(s).
Can someone help me, are there any shows included or available in the public domain that do this. Perhaps i already have those, but haven't noticed they are for multiprojector already, then a pointer in the right direction is ok too.

Have Mamba 2.5 incl. the extra shows, all the White-G shows for mamba, i have 2 FB3's incl. QS and have borrowed a QM with LD2000 with accompanying disk and shows....

As for now i have only my RGB but i am busy building my Greens (and maybe will make them GB (Green Blue), so i would love to have a show to test that with.

(Yeah i know i can make a show multiprojector, but i am just getting the hang of it, so if someone can teach me on the next UKLEM would appreciate it...) before that it would be easy to have something to test.

Hope someone can help me out?

Hi all,

It's been ages since I've been on the forum - I've been incredibly busy being ill having caught pneumonia in Florida! Anyhow enough of my problems...

I have the need to have a small laser animation for a Panto in December. I had full intentions of building a small projector to do this - to the point I bought most of the bits (50K galvos etc.) but have basically run out of time to build it.

So, I'm looking for help. Basically throwing it out there to anyone that might be interested in either completing the build or hiring a projector and associated hardware for three weeks in Dec. Show is in NE Scotland.

Let me know if you're at all interested.
Thanks

ADAT blanking problem

I'm working on some old ADAT shows that I got as 7 - 8 .wav files. I have been converting them with Soundforge to 8 channel .flac format to play...

I'm working on some old ADAT shows that I got as 7 - 8 .wav files. I have been converting them with Soundforge to 8 channel .flac format to play using Winamp. Most of the shows have some issues with spikes.

My first attempts I tried lowering the level of the spikes and noticed anything after the spike, it seemed like there was something that had corrupted the files and (lack of) blanking became an issue.

I thought I had it all figured out. Go to the spot with the spike, backup to the end of the last song and cut everything forward out and have a shortened show that worked. Wrong...

Used my desktop (much faster computer) to edit the shows and then put the finished shows on a disc and transfer them to the laptop laser computer and play them. A lot of hours of thinking I had something that worked turned out to be a waste of time.

I found a couple of complete shows that had no spikes and after getting everything to .flac, just cut the 20+ seconds of intro that had nothing (all 8 channels), and cut the end of the show that had a long stretch of nothing and thought I had a finished show.

Even the shows with no spikes are having blanking problems. Sometimes it is noticeable but not that bad. Other times the graphics have so much lack of blanking I can't even tell what they are. Some shows seems like they are good to a certain point and then it is like the blanking is just gone. Other shows are messed up from start to finish.

The one thing I just thought of and have not tried is turning the volume down some in Winamp. The shows are mega bright with the volume all the way up. Maybe I am over modulating the shows?

The other thing I have thought of is maybe it is an issue with using Winamp to play the shows. Maybe something like Spaghetti would play them correctly?

Any suggestions for what to try next? I only have a week to get some shows together.

ok so i have done a good bit of research and Ive got 100% answers to some questions but not to others. im planing on using a pair of Scanpro20s from lasershowparts. now i would like to be able to run these live as my friend and i are DJs (im supposed to be the lighting guy). so i would like to be able to run then live but also have sound activation or auto play so i dont have to sit there and constantly be changing the effects my self. so what i have looked at is Moncha Lite which seems to be what im looking for i think i read some where it has an auto mode on it as well. also i have looked at spaghetti with a bought DAC but it doesn't seem like you could run it live very easily. third option is to run it DMX. im not quite sure i understand how you run a laser scanner using DMX could any one explain this?

http://www.youtube.com/user/MLTech#p/u/18/IHsBT1i9rkE
(he is running DMX and has the kind of effects im looking for and freestyler is free =))

Also one of the big effects that we want to do is a fanned out laser that goes up and down to the bass line. how could this be done? would moncha do it? spaghetti? DMX?

so all in all im looking for lower end simple live laser scanner with some auto features. the fan effect. plan on using a green laser. eventually red and green.
Ideas? thoughts? suggestions?

This will never replace real scanners, but it's an interesting and fun way to experiment and learn. I know most of you here are light years ahead of this stuff, but you might find it interesting or in the very least sentimental.

I'm waiting to hear back about the availability of the Audiolase from 300Evil so I was looking for a decent green laser to use once all my parts start rolling in. Anyone have any thoughts about this one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/200mw-532nm-DPSS...efaultDomain_0

My intention is to start with just the green and eventually go to RGB once I have some idea what it is I'm doing. :o

I have two 445nm diodes that are going around now, I know I ordered a LPC-815 sled, another LPC-815 in an Aixiz module, two PHR803T sleds, a handful of Aixiz modules and to be honest, I can't recall what else I've ordered recently. I also have a RPL-260 that isn't going to help with the scanner but I like it. :)

Once I do get around to moving from just green to RGB, I was thinking I could combine the two 650nm diodes with a PBS. Is this reasonable or am I way off base?

One last thing, for now... The TEC thing is bothering me. Are the TECs ran primarily on the higher powered units or no. Basically, am I going to be able to run these diodes in the Aixiz modules with a heat sink and no TEC or is that asking for problems?

I recently picked up two General Scannning G120DT galvos and was wondering what driver to use to control them (from what I've dug up, it looks like the GS MiniSax and the TurboTrack2 are discontinued--please correct me if I'm mistaken!). Would it be possible to connect them to a PC and control them from there? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, RIYA asked that I announce the latest update to the Multibus line of controllers: Along with Ethernet and USB streaming, they now offer DMX remote control of SD card playback. You have been able to load frames and sequences onto an SD card for stand-alone playback for a while, but now these different sequences can be triggered and controlled with DMX. Up to 4,096 different addressable sequences can be loaded (64 banks of 64 frame sequences) as well as position and scale can be controlled via DMX in real time. This will allow easy control of peripheral projectors from a variety of software and consoles. The Multibus controller costs $259 and the pro version with LCD display costs $299.

http://www.phoenix-showcontroller.de/en/

Please note that this upgrade is not free - it will cost you around £85 depending on the exchange rate. (The last free update to Phoenix 3 (V3.25) was issued in May.)

Updating is by email - once you have paid, you will be sent a program to run on your computer, this generates a key file from your dongle that you send back, you are then sent the program that will update your dongle. The new version of the software won't run until the dongle update is completed. All pretty painless, and you can't blame them for protecting their intellectual property.

New features include :

Intuitive handling of laser live software

Choose from more than 300 pre-programmed effects

Store up to 880 complete animations / effects per show

Output to up to 8 individual laser projectors

8 time matrix output in real time (allocation of projectors in real time applies for every effect)

Chaser function for laser projectors (that is, a running light function) individual effects can also be programmed in no time

Many powerful functions from PHOENIX PRO, such as Hiddenlines, Masking, Scanlimits, Sparkling, Strobes, up to 30 layers per effect, colour morphing, morphing of images, etc.

Each effect may take as long as 10 minutes

Time line programming

Allows fixed and variable allocation of lasers for every effect

Allows DMX Interface for interactive control of external DMX controllers. For this, all functions and parts come with a unique starting address

DMX-out (8 x 512 DMX-Channels)

DMX Quick Access buttons for quick programming of chasers, moving heads, strobes, silver screens, etc.

FOG button – with up to 24 DMX channels ( that is, several fog machines can be programmed to be controlled either simultaneously, or successively)

Sound-to-sound laser function with individual adjustment of bpm for every single effect

Auto run for laser effects

10 interactive sliders to directly change effects during data output, such as colour gradients, strobe effects, movements along all axes, scan-speed adjustments and many more

Transition effects between 2 effects (cross-over effects)

Group and preset buttons

Time line for creation of scenes for smaller shows

SMS-to-laser for free is included and may be used with conventional IPhones

Can also be used via PDA (optional function)

Up to 8 effect buttons can be pushed and held simultaneously through Multi-Effect-Hold

Midi devices, such as Midi keyboards, are preinstalled for use

Perfect support of the novel Akai APC-40 Midi device with own surface

Individual scan settings for up to 8 laser projectors with 3 projection worlds for each of them, including colour adjustments, scan settings, safety zones, sizes and positions as well as geometric corrections along all axes (including trapped and clipping zones)

Intelligent beam table with 50 single beams, with rotating squares and own pictures being definable as beam as well (perfect for disco balls…). Thus, the beams can always and quickly be adjusted to your new location – no need to pick every single effect again!

Multilingual – new languages can be added very quickly

The graphics of programming surfaces can be adjusted individually

Pic Edit to be replaced by P-CAD editing software

I had a few problems getting the initial release of this to install, but got a lot of friendly email support from Boris, the programmer. He's since released an updated version as of 13 August, which is much better and includes improved Windows 7 support. Please note that you must also do a firmware update for the USB-DAC so that it is running the latest version. I am told that a new, updated manual in English will be available soon!

Trial versions and Tutorials are downloadable from their website.

I hope you can help steer me onto a path. I currently own the Pangolin QC 2000 basic package but I wish to find an inexpensive way to run several other heads. Would I have to get a signal switcher also since my CPU only has 2 usb ports and one is being used by my mouse?

Can anyone point me in the direction to someone who has a enclosure for a projector im trying to build? Ive gotten some pictures and prices for some from china but the shipping on them is a killer. Was quoted a price of 7 bucks a kg (2.2pounds) and that adds up on a 17kg package.

Here are some pictures of the case I was thinking of ordering, the price for it is only 110 bucks, believe it comes with all the switches and stuff and the baseplate. The size of it is 75x55x35cm. I want to put red green and blue in it. So far I have a 300mw laserwave green, a casio blue (doesnt take much room) and I am still saving for the red.

He also sent me a excel file off all the cases that he has and the price and weight of each but I cant figure out how to insert it in a post.

So its listed at 110 bucks plus 119 for shipping. Do you think 230 bucks is worth it? I dont really have the tools or time to make my own and cant really find any on ebay or the web that do not cost like 500 bucks.

Hi there,

I just wondered if anyone had any experience with controlling both QM2000.Nets and FB3s from the same instance of LivePro. Is it possible to mix and match QM2000.Nets and FB3s?

I've had a search around, but I can't see any obvious info on this, whether it's been considered, whether it's possible etc.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
I am building a scanner, I have the following items already (or ordered):

300mW 532nm DPSS TEC labbie

AUDIOLASE

C-Media USB sound card

LFI Player

I am trying to decide on a set of galvos. Currently I have the following in my sights:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SCANLSP-30-30...efaultDomain_0

The 2nd one being PT-30K from Spacelas (Phenix Technology as they are now branded).

I am mostly interested in beam scanning. Of these two, which do you think would be best in terms of performance AND reliability?

Thanks in advance.

Now that I'm upping my colour channels to 4, the 3 channels provided with my Medialas SafeGuard lite are insufficient.

I'm toying with using the blanking in and out on the board as another link in the interlock chain. My thinking is that in the event of a scanner failure, the loop would break and I'd therefore need to correct the scanners before I could hit the reset button.

I have so far verified that on startup, without the scanners operating, there is no conductance between the blanking in and the out of the board. My next step was to see how the conductance was affected by normal and failure conditions.

So do you think this is reasonable, feasible and safe; or do you have any other suggestions of how I could reuse this scan fail board in my 4+ channel projector?
