    Default Facts not Fiction

Im sorry but there is indeed a design flaw in the MAXyz 200mw 660nm moduel. I read all the posts and I hear owners of this unit saying the same thing over and over. First lets clarify the poor documentation that comes with the TTL units

You can power the unit between 5-9volts. For testing you can tie the TTL line to + voltage STOP!!!!!

TTL can only handle +5volts. 9 Volts would burn the TTL circut which will leave the unit at (full power with no TTL control OR More commonly 1mw output with no way to increase power)

Clearly if you read the crapy sheet that came with the unit the instructions are faulty

2- Someone wrote "I think these units are overdriven"- to which I must respond "Of course they are" Its a 200 dollar unit putting out 200mw. There is nothing wrong with overdriving the unit as the end result would be a reduction in life expectancy 10,000hrs down to 6,000.

The Problem with MAXyz is that he is not upfront with the details

Yes we over drive the unit
Yes there is a problem with the written documentation and you should not tie TTL to +9v
Yes I have had many reports of failure

Folks I have a total of 1hr on my unit and its been repaired by MAXyz once already. I get zero response from him via email. This is not mud slinging, this is honest feedback about a product that has some problems. I have no confidence that I will ever hear from MAXyz again and my unit is damaged. Rather then complain lets all start sharing the fix for these units. I will bust mine open tonight and pinpoint the componet level failure. I assure you its TTL that is failing and this type of failure has 3 possible modes

    no output
    dim output
full output with no TTL control.

I was under the impression that the maxyz's used inverted blanking. could connecting the modulation lines incorrectly be leading to a problem?

    Default MAXYZmodules support

I have never had any problems with either of the 3 ,660 nm laser diode modules I own. I setup my own 2 diodes using a beam/combiner polarized cube and dichroic mirror to combine two modules and get 400 mw output.
I have nothing but praise for Chuck and Maxine which is more than I can say about the Ozzie, Dave who's quick to stab Chuck "in the back" as already posted above.
I have sufered from severe back pain myself and know what it's like. I wish Chuck a speedy recovery.

You might find you can produce them yourselves. The heat sinks are a RF dummy load from Diamond and the lenses are Axizs (spell?) products.

The long can diodes are now widely available.

A full internal description has been posted here before with pics.

Default It is an easy DIYproject

I built this little guy and it is beautiful. Shameless plug, if you guys would hold out for a little while (until I get my mill) i will be selling a little kit to build a .5 watt version.

I take it the mill from craigslist didn't work out? That's too bad- that would have been great (for both you and PL potential customers I mean).
That is a great looking little dual set up- are you running both diodes from a single driver by chance? I remember the topic being touched on here and there.
    Thanks, Mike

    Default Thanks

The mill from craigslist would have cost me a fortune to move it from portland. I got my eye on one here and if my engraver sells on ebay, my new machine shop should be up and running in a week or two. Yep another fortune that i will spend and never recover. But i have a million ideas (one last brainstorm until my brain fades away) and need a shop to bring them to light. I can not rely on ANY machine shop.

This is a DIY I am runnig them with the LM317 ckts but my goal is to provide a mounting plate for the flexmod. currently this almost fits in a closed altoids can....Curiously strong laser current dim- (and I can shrink it a bunch) 2.5 x 3.5 x 1.25" It is repeatable to >1 watt. I have made a 240 mw 405 as well, it will be upgradable to >1 watt as well. (I gots high hopes, may fall a bit short but I can try)
