    Default FTP site

IS the ildaswap FTP down or has my IP been banned?

I have tried to log in to that one multiple times in the last week without success. Another member asked me if the MameLD2000 zip on that server was corrupted, and I haven't been able to go see what's up.

Yes, I haven't been able to connect to the ildaswap.net FTP server either. If I remember correctly, It was hosted by Crutch and he's done with lasers. I'd be glad to host one but cannot afford to buy a URL right now. LOL. Then again... nothing wrong with the PLFTP it's just not as popular for some reason.

What is the difference in the content of ildaswap and plftp? Are they the same, similar, or completely different?

Is there a current (complete) copy of what crutch was hosting?

    I have space on a server w/ decent uptime/bandwidth.

I also tried several things and searched many posts for FTP-Connection problems. The ftp.photonlexicon.com works fine, but i believe on the ildaswap.server are more useful files, because itīs online for longer time. Or iīm wrong

Here two screens of failed connections with FireFTP

    I hope someone could help

Cruch's FTP server (the ildaswap one) has been down for several weeks. Since Cruch isn't into lasers, he doesn't log in to PL very often. I suspect he is unaware that there is a problem with the server.

Does anyone have Cruch's contact information? Would be nice to drop him a message and see if he could look into the problem. If he can't keep the server up any longer, it would be good if we could at least copy all the content to the plftp server so it isn't lost... (Cruch's server always had more traffic, probably because it was started earlier.)

    Thanks for quick answer

I am glad thatīs not a problem of my computer skills.

it would be good if we could at least copy all the content to the plftp server so it isn't lost
if this is possible, it would be a better solution then the current situation.

A few months ago, i made a backup of both the Ildaswap as well as the PL ftp.
Have a 100Mbit connection at home, and now it might come in handy.
If there is enough space on the PLFTP i can upload all the contents over ?

Maybe it's better to wait first to see if crutch can get it up again (the server i mean...dirty minds ). If not, i can upload the contents i have.
    I didn't fail !
I just found out 10,000 ways that didn't work.

    Thumbs up

I know that the PL FTP has the space for the files. (It's not quite unlimited, but it's close!) If you don't mind maxing out your connection, it would be great to get the content uploaded to the one working FTP server we have left.

    Hello Adam,

I don't mind "maxing out my connection", i have started a fiber project in my neighborhood, so all the 5000 homes in my neighborhood now have a 50/50Mbit internet connection.
All the volunteers and myself got 100Mbit up/down for our efforts ;-) No limits, no extra pay, just almost 12Megabyte per second ;-)
Just because i like to "max out my connection" i started this project ;-)

OK i will start the upload now... It's 29.7GB
I will call the directory ILDASWAP Mirror and keep the directory structure intact ok ?
We can always later move stuff, but for now it's easy if people look for something that was on the old ILDASWAP FTP.

    EDIT 11.36PM (Dutch time)
Ok, i made a directory called ILDASWAP Mirror and am uploading now.
It's all the files that were on the ftp on the 12th of August 2009.
Just 5141 files to go.... ;-)
I get an average of 3 MByte per second up.... well ok it will get there eventually, i'll leave it running and will check in the morning...
it seems like there is a cap of 1,5Mbyte for each connection. I have 2 threads running. Will check if i make it 5 threads that the speed goes up...

    Edit2: 11.46PM (Dutch Time)
10 threads simultaneously now... goes lightning fast, already transferred 803 files !

Edit 3: Added a picture Look at those upload speeds...
If you add it all up , it's a total of 11,7MB/s mind you: that's MB not Mb !!!

Yup i am really proud that i, as a volunteer, got a company to invest over 10 million euros in my neighborhood. Now i am asked to speak to other communities as well how team up and get it done ! It's really fun and as a status update:

    4301 files have succesfully transferred
    5 need to be rescheduled
    871 to go...

Hahaha, i almost transferred 20GB in an hour hahaha
    I didn't fail !

Just 81 files to go, it's the videos directory.
So will take another 20 minutes and then all is there ;-)

Will go to sleep now since it's almost 1am here and i need to get up at 7am.

Hope you all enjoy the files, bye for now.

Thumbs up 3 cheers for HobbyBob!

Awesome work! Man, I envy you and your fiber connection at home! I'll probably be retired before I see fiber to my home.

Thanks again for preserving (and uploading) all this data!

    Thanks Adam,

I always received a lot of help from a lot of friendly people, this was my chance to do something back, although it be not very technical or really indepth laser knowledge.
People always say i am crazy storing all this data ("You try to make a copy of the Internet?") and stuff and now it came to good use ;-)

Hope everyone enjoys, all 5155 files where transferred succesfully, only 1 aborted the UKLEM3.5 mpg file of 2.2GB, i just restarted/resumed it, it will be ready in 3 minutes...

    Kind regards,
    Dimitri

Thanks HobbyBob for all your time and help with this.

I just received Quickshow this week and am in great need of some beam affect. I'm hoping to share back soon when I come across files that have not been shared.

I'm not sure how to access the mirror though?

    Cheers,
    Matt

The mirror is just a directory in the root of the PL ftp.
So download a FTP client like filezilla, then install, and connect to PL Ftp
    User plftp, password ildaswap
In the directory ILDASWAP Mirror you will find all the stuff, under Shows\Pangolin FB3 you will find some useful stuff ;-)
