Default what exactly is 'ban evasion'

We all practise 'ban advoidence' ie try to not do something that would violate the TOS or otherwise get us banned, but in my tiny mind evasion would mean coming back to a forum under a new name to evade a ban. Please set me straight--ty

also is the reason(s) for a member getting the 'club' not something that should be open to the public- otherwise it takes on the look of something done behind backs and closed doors.

my 2 cents-- plz dont ban me for asking

Ban evasion is exactly what you said - creating another identity / account in order to return to a forum you've been banned from.
They say video games are bad for kids but if Pacman had affected us we'd all be running around in dark
rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

The user in question "DTR" was found out to be Elektrofreak, and conversely he had another account here by the name of "Lased"

All these accounts were put in the industrial crusher sometime this morning.

EF was warned repeatedly, then banned for a short period of time. Then he was "cool" for a while and then went back to spewing the same old non productive vitriol as before and he was warned and then banned *again* for a not as short period of time. While this was in effect he registered a new user account by the name of lased and went back to being just as abrasive under the new handle.

New account, new drama... Tired of the poison and being told of the poor treatment in private to other members.

His full ban reason is " Ban evasion? That's a banning." - It was supposed to be a play on the phrase from the Simpsons "That's a paddling." implying punitive action will be taken.

As far as these things not being public... anyone who has been here long enough knows that I am extremely forgiving and believing that people *can* be civil and to assume that anyone can have a bad day or thirty-seven and will eventually come back to "ground" and ignore the vast majority of all ban requests - So when a ban eventually does get issued it's already a matter of public record to everyone involved and most times even further out of the core group than that because I was retarded and let the "crap" go on for way way way too long and people started 'ing the thread.

As far as banning for asking about this or any other base board operational voodoo: Never. I'm not that kind of douche-bag. The only time I have banned people for "asking" is when they specifically request that I do because they have finals coming up and need a week off to actually, you know, study.

Yep; completely horrible. Like how do you sleep at night(other than quite well) - Though seriously; to compare you to EF is like comparing chocolate cake and dental work.

    Better than getting dental work.

DTR tells me on LPF PM that he is not EF. Same city, different guys.
I have no way to check this. You guys check this out.

    HMike

This is a quote I got from him:
"Well Elektrofreak and I both live in St. Louis. Wow that is one hell of a matching. So do they only allow one user per city?

I am definitely not Elektrofreak. I could forgive and come back if it was just a mistaken identity. I just did not like it if I had been banned for who I am."

You are spot on. I know both of them, they are not the same person!

'...banned for who I am'? Hmm, interesting word-choice...Freudian slip?? I'll be seeing Señor Admin later tonite, so for some strange-reason, I'll pass it on to him DTR has-petitioned to re-investigate (though, I have to say, our Janitor is certainly 'no slouch' when it comes to IT-tech / methods for determining stuff like this...
no he's not the 'NSA', but probably pretty-close...

But he's going thru some personal-issues, right now, so, it might be a day or so, before he is willing / able to respond... I think we can all survive a day or so w/o yet-another 445-module hawker, yes?

    peace, out...

did you check to see if they are the same IP/ISP? you can look that up on ARIN

anyway, on the board I mod multiple accounts = ban all accounts... returning bans = ban

but we have an automated system for checking that

I've had coms between both EF and DTR is the past...
and they are not the same person...In my opinion..

Just in their PM and E-Mail messages it is obvious to me
that they are 2 separate individuals with different mind sets..

    Default I am EF

    no Jerry is EF

DUH!! I see a huge FACEPALM coming!!

sad thing is you just lost a potentially killer member-with incredible skillz and much nicer/helpful than many here-- I convinced jordan to join PL and move on from toy lasers to the real deal- I am leaving PL if nothing is done to correct this BIG mistake-- but I am not sure just un-banning DTR will get him back.

hak, I take slight offence to two parts of your statement, not enough to not help in the kitchen at SELEM, but a lil.

    "much nicer/helpful than many here.."

What are you trying to indicate? Who hasn't been nice or unhelpful. As far as I have seen almost every member here has tried to be helpful to almsot anyone (spammers and trolls excluded) and it takes a lot for any of us to be less than nice. From what I hear, it can get kinda nasty on LPF. Not that LPF doesn't have some very knowledgeable members; I have looked at several respectable threads when I search the wider internet for things. I don't have the attention span to hang out on two forums about the same thing... I don't have the attention span to even hang out on another forum at all, no matter what it is about.

"I am leaving PL if nothing is done to correct this BIG mistake".

You'd really leave over this... People make mistakes; I don't think this is that big of one especially with EF's past. It seems a small mistake if all the evidence indicated even a 75% chance DTR was EF. Even if it is 100% wrong, this would be the first time I am aware of someone being banned wrongfully. It isn't like there is a group of moderators here; it is ALL Spec, by himself. He doesn't want other people having to worry about moderating officially, probably to avoid the drama that seems to occur at forums like LPF. While this would probably make a wrongful ban less likely, at least for this reason, I bet more wrongful bans happen at LPF beacuse there is more official moderation. Again, this is the first I have seen possibly occur here. I won't pass judgement until Spec posts that it was a mistake as I got no evidence in front of me either way... as it should be.

Again, it is ALL Spec, by himself; and his reality hasn't been all that enviable lately which should give him an excuse to make a mistake or three. I believe he has been batting close to 1.000 for this long. 1.000 = a thousand right?
    Love, peace, and grease,

Do you honestly think our Admin would act if he hadn't? I really don't think any-further 'proof' of his ample 'fairness' and levelheadedness / balanced-decisions is needed around here, but, from what I was told, he had it down to "/24", which is pretty-darn close to being 'the one', as I understand. Again, he ain't the friggin NSA, and I'm sure he'll 'right any wrongs', in this case... word...

Sorry, what part-of "...he's going thru some personal-issues, right now, so, it might be a day or so, before he is willing / able to respond..." was unclear?? If it's that 'OMG-critical' for the guy, my suggestion to 'DTR' would be to simply email Spec <spec AT specwhore DOT com>, directly, like a big-boy, and ask him to 'fix, please...' Has he tried that?

But if DTR is unwilling to communicate / get huffy about a totally-unmalignant *mistake*, and afford Spec the patience to get back here / attend to this, on his OWN timeframe, then I'd submit he's free to leave... Spec doesn't 'owe' DTR (or anyone here, for that matter) jack-spittle, and I certainly don't think PL needs any new 'primadonnas' around here, that can't 'take it', when something goes up in flames... heck, I even got my ss mowed, in public here, recently, and even though I felt 'here' was not the 'appropriate-place' for it (imo, should have-been PMs / email) I'm not going around bashing the guy that did it / the PL-community at-large / threatening to leave, etc...

But that's just my opin... You're free to consider / flush as you / DTR see-fit...

    ciao

I was upset as I had vouched for the guy and I know him and that he is not EF. I took that personal and that was a mistake on my part. sorry- I sure everything will play out as a another mistake by accident. I also should have been more mindful of Spec's current situation and I apologize for doing that. hak

No lets go be mean to this spammer who just arrived... (One of my definitions of a spammer is a sales rep from a company who only joined to sell something.)

Irish Car Bombs? Sounds interesting. Does this involve my favorite liquor, Jameson Irish Whiskey?

Holy Cats! you don't know the magical choco-love / liquid ss-kicker that is an 'ICB'??

OK, So, get 1 nicely chilled pint glass, preferably with 'smooth sides' (for easier gulping , filled, ~ 1/2 - 5/8's with (preferably) cold, but not *too* cold, nice frothy Guinness... draught in glass, is-best, but the 'tall cans' will do, in a pinch...

Then, in (preferably) a 1 1/2-shot shot-glass, fill with 1/2 Baileys, (preferably first..) and 1/2 - yep - Jamesons, let 'settle'...

Then, prepare your favorite 'arm-chair' / rocker / sofa / bed, etc (...cause those are nicer than the floor, mind you... take the pint of Guinny in one hand, and the shot-glass in the other, and... *ka-ploonk*, drop 'er into the pint! At this point, it will quickly 'curdle', and begin to look like cat-yack but don't worry, you'll be fine...

Now, *most importantly*, drink it down to the bottom, in one fell-swoop. (...but take care not to chip a tooth with the shot-glass.. Important to get the proper 'progression', from 'bitter Guinny-start', moving on into the warming Jameson-rush, then, the all-important, Baileys-mixed-with Guinny lip-smacking 'choco-love finish'... Buuuuuurp!

Repeat. (...but not more than 3-4x, or...well, remember what I said about 'cat yack'?

(Disclaimer: Not-responsible for 'trading one vice for another' - if you kick the rollies, only to get hooked on 'ICBs', you didn't get this recipe from me, we didn't have this conversation, I don't know you...

    njoy...
    cheers.

Sorry guys I did not mean to stir up the so much drama.

I had emailed via the contact us link two days in a row and then sent a few messages to some of my friends that are members here to see if they could figure out what had happened. I certainly understand the mods needing to review the info and they have to find the time to do so. I don't feel anyone owes me anything. I have been signed up for a while and only became active recently when I posted some info on the M140 I extracted diodes from. I enjoy this hobby and I really like to build things. Hopefully I can be an asset to this community.

What I meant by "who I am" is referring to projects/tutorials I had done in the past elsewhere that have kind of become what people know me for and is not the core of this forum.

As for the sales thread I posted here thinking I was filling a gap as I saw a few buying threads in the BST for diodes with out any responses. I am happy to delete it if anyone thinks I just came here just to peddle stuff. I try to do right by people and my hope was that it would be a benefit to this community.

In the end I do appreciate the mods taking a look at my situation and correcting the error.
