    Default Great Lakes LEM?

OK I know this was tried last year in Wi, but gonna try to do something here in Michigan in April or May most likely around the grand rapids area, just looking to see what interest there maybe. Have one old theater in mind that would have been great, but I need to go double check it out as they converted it to host Texas Hold em tournaments and added a bunch of suspended lights for over the tables i have been told. It is a shame as it was a beautiful (well old falling apart) theater from the 20's.

This first meet would not have 3phase and water so it will be pretty much a no gas event unless single phase air cooled.

Interested: i'll add more as they come in, once a venue is found i'll have an official sign up.

    Sounds good!

Please count me in. I have been thinking of hosting something in the Ann Arbor area, but haven't got anywhere with it.
    GR it is.

    I suggest calling it "MichLEM".

    Thanks...Mike

I would be interested in trekking up from Kentucky to play with lasers and see the sights.

    Same here -
I've spent more time overseas than I have north of the Mason / Dixon line, so if the timing is right, I'd be interested!

Hey, ya'll learned how to make iced tea properly up there yet?

Hey...sounds good to me...After reading Buffo's most excellent review of SELEM 2011...I am hopeful we will achieve " Critical Mass" and a MIDLEM, MICHLEM or GREAT LAKES LEM will be born. I would surly love to see DRLAVA be at this event !!!! I have been exploring the " Horn of Plenty" offered with LSX....and I am very hooked. Like I said....we cannot and should not be compared to SELEM. My only further response is seen here ==> MrBurns Ass tee.jpg

I wouldn't worry about the SELEM comparison -

Smaller events definitely have their place & appeal, too!!!!

Well atleast i'll be prepared, planning a DA and patch system to support 6 DACS and 24 projectors select-able in banks of 6 to route any signal to any group or all. Bit overkill as I plan on maybe 4~6 projectors.

Ayup, I got lumia out the wazoo. A red, a green, and an RGB, working on two more.

Wrote an article about it for Make Magazine:

Nice it is looking like there is enough interest for me to put a deposit down once the right place is found. My search still continues for the proper venue. Should be posting pics of one possibility next weekend as I get to tour it late next week.

This will be good encouragement to get some work done on my projectors. Now all I need is time and some spare coin.

OK, so this is sounding cool, but I gotta' ask -

Is this going to be "Club GLLEM", or is the goal to go for a variety of music and lots of shows?

variety is the spice of life...

Will love to play and see anything, a good mix of all county, club, rock, family, popular, kids, holidays, religious etc with priority given to those who made a show to bring.
Going to try to keep to a now playing and up next digital display updated and edited as insertions schedule change things. Being an AV Guy i wanted this part to be smooth, have been looking for a matrix control router that could be modded slightly going single ended color to have full switching in a 24X24 config, but currently planning/building the proper patch bay to support 4 in, 24 out with the ability to patch inputs in blocks of 6 if wanted for multi head shows.

looks like we will even have lumia covered with any luck.

    All sounds good -

Hopefully by then we can have a few BEYOND multi-projector shows ready!!

If it looks like I can make the trip, I'll plan to haul my DZ argon lumia rig I had at SELEM -
    What's one more footlocker, right?

    BTW -

At some point, we'll need the 411 on local places & events -
That long of a haul, might as well make a vacation of it!!

No complaints, especially if she's the one spinning the platters...

I would like to see some new stuff and some of the things that Randy, once again, did not get to play at SELEM. A variety would be very nice.

Randy had the chance to play his show, but he decided not to. Also, he had to leave early on Sunday morning. Had he stayed later, he would have had another chance to run it, as we re-configured the auditorium to the classic 2+1 projector layout for Tim Walsh and Mike Dunn to run their shows. (One RGB graphics projector on the center screen, and two matched RGB beam projectors left and right facing out towards the audience.)

Part of the problem is that very few people submitted a list of shows that they wanted to run. In the vacuum, other people ran what they had. If people would like to see more variety, they need to speak up early and PLAN to bring the shows they want to watch. (Seriously, some people didn't even have play-lists set up...)

rebuttal = good, but please guys if you go further stick this in another thread.

Adam, if I get what I want all built up it will come to SELEM if wanted it will seriously help avoid the cluster of moving cables around.

    thanks

    Adam,

I never meant to insinuate anything other than it just did not happen. It was just the way it went as see it. I do like to tease him about it though. I'm hoping to get an invite down to Knox real soon so I can see some of his shows and drink some beers there. I'm not sure that I can wait until Spring of 2012. Never meant to offend.

It's OK Ian - no offense taken. It's just that I know Randy was bothered that he didn't run his show, and in retrospect I think there really wasn't any good reason why we didn't watch it, apart from the fact that Randy didn't feel like stopping the action for us to swap the cables around. (We certainly did a lot of swapping on Sunday, both for Tim and Mike, and later for Aaron and Frank, and that all went very well, so it's something we can definitely do quickly.)

I'm just saying that in the future, it would probably be best for us to plan for the fact that we'll need to change the projectors around a bit as the event progresses. (And this would apply to the GLLEM as well.) It might sound like a lot of work, but it's really not that bad at all.

BTW - the matrix control router is a cool idea (sort of like the ILDA splitter taken to the next level), but sometimes there's no substitute for just pulling cable. Also, after watching several shows this year on multiple projectors (14+) and then seeing the same shows later on just two matched projectors, I have to say that I sometimes prefer the two-projoector layout.

In a related topic, Brad (MassiveSound) was talking about the possibility of a Knoxville LEM at some point in the future - possibly right after the New Year. So keep that in mind too.

    Adam
