    Question DAC?

Hi guys let me start off by saying that I am a bit of a noob... I was looking at getting a Laserworld CS-600 RGB, is that a good buy, if I can get one for $370. I obviously want to be able to control it via the IDLA port. I was tempted into the iShow package for $50, so that I could use it as I DAC for my friends Pangolin (He lost his DAC). But then I kept reading about how bad it was, so I decided against it. But then I read that it was compatible with Spaghetti, but you needed a driver, which I didn't know where to get. I then saw that you could make one from a sound card, of which I have an old 7.1 channel one, but I couldn't find any instructions on how to build it, or where to get, or what the components are. Then I thought of an open source one (if it exits) or at least one to use with spaghetti, but they are all so expensive. Where could I get a good cheapish DAC. BTW, I know it aint a cheap hobby, and you certainly "don't get a free lunch", but thanks in advance for your help.

Lot of bad press on Laserworld on here from members who allegedly tested their units and found them a long way from specification.

It sounds as if you're in the US in which case its difficult to find a low cost option as projectors need to be FDA approved / varianced.
They say video games are bad for kids but if Pacman had affected us we'd all be running around in dark
rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

Sorry that wasn't clear, with the DAC pictured, could I use Pangolin or Spaghetti, or something like that.

    Thanks

The pic was just a cable that connects to the Riya DAC he mentioned (unless of course it is so miniaturised that it is lterally inside the 25pin Dtype plug)

The picture IS the DAC. It's very small. It works great with Spaghetti. The only DACs that work with Pangolin software are Pangolin DACs.

What he said!! The dac is in the db25. It will run Spaghetti, LDS, LSX and the RIYA software utilities. maybe more, i don't know
can't get smaller and cheaper than this, while being very reliable at the same time

To run pangolin you have to buy their own DAC, their software does not run on other DACs. cheapest pango combo is upwards of 590usd. end of story.

The cheapest way to get very good performance is to get this riya multibus lite and get a spaghetti licence from JohnYayas. You will have lots of features, much more than you can use at the moment. This option will be 230 usd max. Don't expect to spend much less for the audio card, correction amp and all the fiddling with it, if you can't DIY it

Or you can go for the riya lite and the LSX intro for slightly more than 300usd. No reason to fork out all those funds for pangolin yet

That's even cheaper (and more reliable) than modding a soundcard, unless you have a load of parts to scavenge.

Does the RIYA DAC work with HE-Laserscan as well?

Yes, our controllers are supported in LDS, LSX, ILD_SOS, LaserCam, He-Laserscan, Spaghetti, LFI_Player, Zoof's_utilities, RIYA_utilities

well, mr riya lasers sir, i think you should "go out more"!

it seems to me that these very good little dacs do need a boost of publicity, especially now with the evolution of LSX software.
