    ok just a quick update on these fine lil lasers. After removing the G1000 from its fixture i hooked it up to a 5V 200ma power source and the heater to a 3VDC battery w/trimming resistor i adjusted the voltage slightly as i realised 3Vdc (full) was too much power. Low and behold the laser seemed to "lock in" when i trimmed some voltage. Now ive run the laser @ about 90mw for hours..... and it sure looks like its SLM ! hologram test tonight.thanks for all the info prorvided here .

    This is what I came up with earlier. Use at own risk.

    Pins from back left to right.
    1: Gnd
    2: LD +
    3: Gnd
    4: Heater 5Vdc

    As pictured in the pic in post 5

    Mod base freq :27.814 khz.
    About 2.5 volts.
    Heater pwm freq 285.878 khz.
    24% duty
    5Volt

    ok ive just shot three test holograms, the first two were banded quiet regularly (shot at different output powers), i then re-optimised the crystal heater and made sure diode was running full out............. A clean non banded hologram was then produced ! Telling me these ARE running Single Longitudal Mode ............

    I just shut the system off, ill now flip the switch "on" again and see if it maintains SLM.

    ok, Latest update. So im trying to compose a good dual driver,one for the diode and one for the heater. Any way in my half/ass way of testing......
    there was a brief open circut and then a reconnect ! Oops plop (i just heard $75 get flushed down the tiolet) ! Ok so it gave it life so others can shoot holograms with it's brothers!

    so now im starting on my #2 unit. i figured ill take this one a little slower and use ESD and all soldered wireing befor field testing ..........

    Before I really tear it apart, I figured you guys will appreacheat this.

    "first white light laser pointer" ?

    I simply removed the last turning mirror and the "hot"buttons on the left side, and with a little interior filing the beam exits nicely. If i were to do this again i was thinking about drilling a hole stright thru the unit just infront of the exit window and being able to then insert a pointer turning mirror and the beam would now exit thru the front window, and as a bonus if drilled out careful you should be able to still have a working projector (by removing then pointer mirror) .

    Interesting that the newer projectors actually have good alignment right from the optics. The older ones used the MEMS system for the fine alignment tuning, meaning you couldn't really just cut a hole in the side and get a nice white beam.

    The output beam is really not that clean or alighned. I think its possible the three beams may cross each other at a point infront of the projector, if the raw beam is allowed to project a 100' or more you can see the three outputs seperate... and interesting part inside is the photo-diode pickup. Its actually 3 separate sensors with the different color filter on each one .............so all colors are regulated thru it.

    One trick I've used is put a large-aperture plano-convex in front, so it 'blows up' the beam, against a wall - let's you 'study' the beam-profile / mode, etc... w/O adding another 95'... ..You could also-try making a 'z-fold' with a couple 4-6" mirrors, in just-that 'arrangement' (Z) to work / study, closer-in..

    ..This is also a great-way to 'study' a multi-diode array - you can 'see how ya did' on your stack / alignment, and also usually see if one diode is putting out a good-bit less power or is weaker / tweeked... especially useful for studying red-arrays, and examining the mode / beam-anomalies in 'ChOEM' dpss greens..

    Regulated, as-in, feedback for modulation? Or, feedback for 'thermal-regging' stuff, based on power-sampling? Most-curious...

    He He, Thanks for the tips the reason i mentioned/use the 100' beam was i know what most of you guys want to see in a show laser , [______]---------------+. The 100' marker just happens to be about 100' from my kitchen counter to the street sign ............

    Initally i expanded the beam using a fast concave mirror and i was suprised to see the classic color mix image of three colored diameters overlapping with a white spot in the mid-section, all projected on the wall.

    sorry to mess up this thread, but the title is wrong. What you're discussing here is not a Corning G-1000. This laser is manufactured by OSRAM, they named it PL530... The Corning laser would have 10 pins and thus need lots more control loops to keep it running (http://spie.org/x39284.xml).
    So no wonder Corning isn't telling you anything about the insides - they don't know! ;-)

    Im not so sure were all wrong here, can you link a data sheet to your Osram laser? The reason Corning wouldnt talk to me is i wouldnt sign their information disclosuer contract......................

    These SLM lasers are very simple to run and dont need all the connections needed to run a DPSS laser.

    that's exactly my point: the Corning laser is much more difficult to run. Did you have a look at the link? Anything Corning ever published about their green lasers had 10 pins (semiconductor DFB laser externally frequency doubled with ppLN waveguide).

    Hi Sharkcow,

    Yep, ok, that nails it. You were right and we were wrong. You obliviously have privileged info that we don't. OS was very quiet about that module and none of us were able to find it. The g-1000 had more info on the web and seemed to fit the bill. My 'plausible' explanation for the discrepancy in pin count was that the published info was early engineering samples and they had simplified pin count on the shipping device.
    Any way thanks for the info. That explains a lot. Knowing that OS had a lot to do with the MV module now we can safely confirm that the direct blue is also the OS direct blue and most likely the photo diode is a OS part as well.

    It will be interesting to see if the third gen MV module uses the really neat OS module or if they go with a direct green from OS,Soraa,Nichia or others. I know that the 530 is a much better color than the 510 for video... Time will tell.

    While I agree to the similarities, that doesn’t prove that these were used in the MVshowwx units. I’ve read many papers saying these G-1000 and G-2000 units are used in MV Pico projectors.

    Just thinking out loud here...... Is it possible this 4 point connector laser is actually a G-2000 laser ? I wouldnt be suprised if they are made by the same overseas Mfg .

    He has convinced me that it is indeed a OS part. They were just quiet about it. They apparently didn't care that people were attributing the g-1000 with the MV product. Or maybe they started with the g-1000 and the OS part was simpler (read cheaper) to integrate. We will never know.

    OK ok i see it but i see, but the 3 units have here (purchased as non working units) are the second generation MV+ version. Corning has told me unofficially they are the "same laser" (the G1000 and G2000) laser.. so im not convinced, until i rip this MV 1st gen. unit i have, apart to see what its got inside.

    I don't have the specific issue of photonics spectra, but corning no longer makes the g-1000 module so a replacement part is not unlikely. Either way I am waiting for the next version with DI green.

    Where does it say anything about holography? Yes i think great mobile holographic applications are possible with these fairly efficent Osram DFLs, im currently working on a unit to fit in my wrist watch
    ............

    Chad to answer your question. The current laser favored by holographers and made by coherent is about 100mw and sells for $1200+ !

    First of all, I would like to say thank you all guys for all the valuable info you shared about this laser. This convinced me to buy one of those projectors.
    Where does it say anything about holography?
    Well, it doesn't say anything specifically about holography, but it says: "The laser delivers typically 50 mW cw green laser power in transverse and axial single mode..." axial single mode I assume it means single longitudinal mode, so, it should work.

    In the last months I was looking for a cheap green laser suitable for holography, because I can't afford a Coherent Compass 315, and when I saw that you managed to shoot some holograms with this little thing, i bought the projector. About a week ago, I removed that mirror and got myself a "white laser pointer", and I've set up a Michelson interferometer, and it showed some beautiful green fringes, although it is pulsed (I could see a dashed line while scanning the combined beam against a wall); red and blue were just blobs. Today i took it apart. When i said i will have it up and running in a day or two, i meant i will build a driver and mount the module on a heatsink and put everything in some sort of enclosure, so i can try to use it to shoot some DCG, i have some plates that i coated few weeks ago, hope they're still good to use.

    Thank you again guys for all the info, especially you holokidd, because you proved it can be used to shoot holos!

    Another thing... that small thing next to the blue diode in the projector, marked R2, it's not a resistor, it's a 10K thermistor. I've just tested it. Most likely it is used to measure the temperature of the whole device to adjust the heater inside the green module for maximum green output.

    Hello Mihai, thats great news youll be making a unit for holography ! What will you be driving it with? Were you able to test actual V/A delivered to the laser diode and heater ? My first two uints were "non operating" so i wasnt able to test factory settings.........Im now getting ready to tear into #2 showwx for a final battery operated SLM unit.

    An interesting fact as i Zapped my first green unit (lousey electronics backround!), it still lases @ maybe a couple Mw only, not just an led, but actually lases...


    PS im Known as "holomaker" on the holofourum .............
