Default Visit from a Porn Star

Now that I have your attention

A friend came over tonight to show me his new toy, a very nice 8 watt Coherent Taipan OPS Laser. So I guessed it would be rude not to share the moment with you guys...

    Now for the porn bit:

    P1020005.jpg

    P1020007.jpg

    P1020009.jpg

Did we switch it on? Course we did

    P1020011.jpg

    P1020019.jpg

    P1020020.jpg

Here's the spot, best I could get, but rest assured it was a perfect circle...

    P1020024.jpg

Things started getting a little warm to say the least, so a bit of heat sinking was in order...

    P1020034.jpg

    How tight is that beam?

    Cheers

Coherent makes some of the best lasers in the world and they are also about the best laser company support wise also... not perfect but if you ask nicley they often come through and help with issues that are beyong what is written in the product warranty. Nice laser.

That thing looks seriously sexy indeed

How much is the beam divergent and with which diameter? I've always wondered if these Taipan was worth a fortune, versus another brand/type of the same power but alot "cheaper"...

@ SBK: The beam is 2.5mm at aperture with 0.4MRad divergence, we measured 9.6 watts. The laser ramps up to full output in seconds and is stable as a very stable thing

@ SRS: All in all very sexy, a true porn star. However, I think removing the casing for internal shots would definitely have resulted in my immediate death

They say video games are bad for kids but if Pacman had affected us we'd all be running around in dark

London club, or somewhere else? Can you say where or is it seeeekritt?
You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

Can't tell you too much at the moment But, it will be an outdoor installation open to the public for around 6 months... I think the press will be at the opening, so plenty of photo's with any luck...

    opsl question..
why do all the big pro projectors that use opsl ,have a yellow one ?? .
why do they need it ? regular rgb projector just mix red and green for yellow
what dacs even have a yellow line ?
    just wondering

Cuz yellow, by itself, and, Y + other colors looks different than G + those same colors... ie: the 577 Y of OPSL + 445 B, makes for a rather 'otherworldly' white, that you just can't get with RGB, let alone just G+B.. Additionally, 'optical fx', such as lumia, machitas, etc are *waay* richer / more-interesting with an RYGB-source, vs just an RGB... To me, the 'ultimate' OPSL system would be RYGGCBBB... that's, at least, most of the way to an Ion-pallete...

I'm about to post some pix in yer 'NYE' thread, that will make this 'point' about Y... IF that's OK with you... If not, just lemme know and I'll can-em...

..and, sorry, Sir Mark, bout the 'detour' in yer thread...
    chers..
