Just wondering what stands everybody uses for their lasers and what bracket solutions they've come to.
Please feel free to post links and pics as they will help in my future selection.
Thanks.

Hi Al
You've seen mine, a Powerdrive wind up stand capable of reaching 3.2 meters (or was it 3.5 meter's?). These are built like brick sh*thouses and are mega stable. I believe Dan Briggs also has one. No point in having an expensive projector and putting it on a cheap stand IMO. Only thing is that they're a bit on the heavy side, or that could just be me getting older

Ive never rigged just a single laser on a stand. I usually und up with truss on heavy duty lifts

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
We prefer mounting on truss as opposed to stands anyday..

This is what I'd recommend for a single laser. It has a good weight rating and would be relatively stable. (L16 crank stand)

So far I have found speaker stands to be excellent. However not the cheap and nasty light weight type. I like the versatility and the fact you can quickly re align them as in PAN left and right.
I did go to a lot of trouble o ensure that the CofG was exactly over the stand down pipe. This avoids the laser from trying to tip over one way or the other. There is also no side load on the centre bracket.
It is also good for being mobile.
After some eperience at this I designed a plate with the centre stand bracket at the CofG point then I hinged another plate on top of that with hinges at the end. This allows me to fine tune the top plate on which the laser site so I can tweak it up to suit. This has proven to be great. I also screwed an edge strip all t.he way around so the projector can't slide. Short of one of our famous earthquakes it goes nowhere.
So I say a suitable stand with bracket works well and is very quick to set up.
Cheers

bloody expensive... you get what you pay for? http://www.surreysoundandlight.co.uk...s/index2.shtml
don't know, haven't reached the point that rigging is a concern yet (and i don't see it happening anytime soon)
"its called character briggs..."
I have used several methods in the short time I have been gigging.
Firstly, in a regular venue I mounted an arm to the wall @ 3.2 meters. Secure and safe, and always there.
Secondly I have tried using a rope/pulley over a factory girder and tied off to stabalize. Not happy with this method.
The last show I did last week I stacked road cases behind the performers which worked well. I would not do this in an area exposed to drunkards or any public for that matter.
I really don't want to get to the point I need to use lighting winchups and a van... As it is I can fit 3 projectors and 3 boxes of cables in my 300C sedan with the back seats folded down.
To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
3m square truss stood vertical with a base plate. You can even wrap it in lycra and up light the stand looks good.
Or hang it on some truss.
I really hate those tripod stands the legs are always in the way. Done a lot of outdoor stuff and there is no way i would trust one of those stands out in the wind.
I normally use these....
... If Im using my BIG laser then I use this...

I recently purchased this:
http://www.bax-shop.nl/wind-up-stati...t-details.html
wind up so you don't have to lift your heavy weight laser yourself, included a large enough t-barr to support 2 projectors.
It is capable of holding a lot of weight, personally tested if it could support mine ;-)
When folded up you can put it in the back of your car with one seat down.
Possible add-on a second one with truss adapters and i prefer truss if it is availlable but to be self supporting i did buy one of these.

I sometimes use this stand as it will hold a 50lb speaker easily. One leg is adjustable for length for inclines, steps, etc. I use a standard adjustable projector mount normally used on heavy home theater units like Runco (mounts to bottom breadboard easily). This way I can hang from trussing or the attachment pole can slip over the top of the speaker stand and be locked into place. The projector mount is also a great unit for me since it allows roll, pitch and yaw angle adjusting.

The best bang for buck stand I know of (and use!) is the American DJ ST132 which is a Global Truss OEM I believe. Thomann do them for ~£130 each and hold 85kg up to 4m high. One adjustable leg and I think they're the same ones linked in the bax store a couple of posts up.
They are either a rebrand or copy of the Standtek SPTek4000 which retails for much more. Looks like Thomann also do the same stand under a different brand name for about £110 too.
At 25kg each they are a bit on the heavy side.

Anybody know if 4 legs are still *technically* required in the US? That *was* the case not too long ago, but I could see the rule changing for whatever reason.
I knew I had the link here somewhere...

I definitely support the ST132 choice. They're cheap, and you can get adapters to attach 30cm square truss for a total weight of about 100kg (200lbs) worth of load.
I've used the on numerous occasions including bigger setups, and they're pretty solid, good bang for the buck.
Also, I believe Global has a version on the market right now which has TÜV certification.
I always thought American DJ stuff was a little on the cheap side quality wise. I know many of you had said you don't like their light quality. Are their stands different then?
BTW I really like the Powerdrive and some of the truss suggestions, but I fear they are beyond my budget for home use.
I already have a truss I bought off ebay a while ago, and its perfectly usable if a slightly damaged on one twist lock (although there's a locking pin as well for safety.) Only thing is whilst I was happy sticking the LW up there, I'm not so happy putting a 5K projector on a cheap truss. It's also way to wide for my use and more suited to a stage or DJ set up in a club.
I might give it away or accept offers on here if anyone wants it for general light fittings as I can't see myself using it.
Anyway, keep the suggestions / feedback coming, this is great resource for anyone looking for a stand.
They say video games are bad for kids but if Pacman had affected us we'd all be running around in darkrooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.
I use the ST132 for a lot of jobs, supporting up to 8 Robe scans, 2 3k strobes, 3 laser projectors, parcans, etc usually running out of span before weight capacity.
If you read my previous answer carefully, you'll see they are Global Truss OEM.
BTW for home use, the ST132 is overkill. Prop it up on your dinner table with some books or something.

Sorry Norty not being in the industry and thus on the club circuit, brands like Global don't mean a lot to me. Do I take it they're top quality?

They're pretty good. Good bang for buck, and have decent weight limits and (imho) a better joining system than a lot of other brands which people seem to favour.

Looks reasonable and not a bad price either.

well i like to be different.
i brought a wind up stand on ebay cost £100, so not badly priced. i drilled the rivets out and replaced them with m5 bolts.
my view is its very strong, the stand has some weight to it. im impressed with it and will be purchasing another one soon
