Lightbulb Arduino & Stabilized Platform - Off topic?

I am working on an ATmega328 with accereometrs and Gyro's to stabilize a PT platform and heres what I need. I have been unable to get better help on Arduino.cc or anywhere else. Consider that I have a pan/Tilt (2 servos) controlling a SONY block camera. I need the auctual platform on which it sits to be stabilized in 2-3 axis. The camera also has a laser on it for pointing (green)

I have modified this to work with a Wii MP & Nunchuck to move the PT unit in lieu of the joystick, but I need to have the joystick as the main HMI and IMU to stabilize.

I have atleast 6 different gyros and a number of Accell's. I also just bought 2 Pololu MinIMU-9 Gyro, Accelerometer, and Compass (L3G4200D and LSM303DLM Carriers ) (http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1265)

    Any ideas?

Once again, sorry if this is too off topic. I'm not to well versed in C++ yet

Maybe it's just too early in the morning, but I can't tell what exactly the question is. You basically need to perform some type of sensor fusion with all the inputs you have coming in. Looks like the sensors are I2C, so it shouldn't be too difficult to acquire all the data needed, and then offload to a PC for a processing (or do on the Arduino, I guess).

Or if you're talking about joystick input, probably using a USB joystick with DirectInput/XInput and then connecting the Arduino to the PC as a USB device (might have to go to a higher-end model with USB functionality, I'm not that familiar with the Atmel lineup). Might find it easier to use C# and base your code off some of the DirectX SDK samples.

The joystick is a standard DUAL pot. not hall effect (which would be better) I have the Pan/Tilt working fine with the joystick. Now I just need to compensate for movement with IMU. I need it to just subtract or add to the numbers that move the pan/tilt when the joystick is either moving or not. Guess Ill mount the IMU on top of the Block camera. Im not using slip rings because I do not need 360 degree rotation. The arduino Atmel 328 should be fine to crunch the numbers ok

He wants to have the IMU lock onto a heading and tilt, holding till input from the remote. correct?

geo pointing is the term. have not seen anyone do it on an arduino. I cant be much help in the code department sorry. This reminds me, I have 20 pan/tilt units here from satellite trackers I should off soon.

I'm seeing R/C Helicopter Gyros for Servo control in my mind...
Not sure if that would help in your case...

I have all the required hardware, multiple gyros, accelerometers, Wii controllers, pan/tilts already built. The aircraft gyros are not stable enough and R/C stuff has the wrong inputs.

I would achieve this with PID loops The joystick determines the setpoint, the gyro the positional feedback.

maybe a 2 axis acellerometer would work better

Too much data on R/C input which I don't want to use. Im not making a vehicle, but a camera stabilization platform. I joined DIYdrones a while ago and have found nothing to help, directly

You have to start with a open source inertial platform, hence DIY drones.
If you cannot adapt their open code, there is almost NOTHING else available for what you seek, short of paying for commercial IMU.

I got it, just had to work hard and look more. I think I need to add a third axis for yaw rate on camera, but here is the viseo of it working..

I find it has a bit of a slow pan/tilt response...

I need to reduce the time for servo response. It seems to work having the accelerometer on the base, rather than the top of the camera. Ill probably end up using better gear motors with tach/encoder feedback. Ultimately, Ill have it all machined...In the mean time, atleast it works

Nice to have that sort of $$ for it is not cheap. Servos, steppers or gear driven with encoders. If servos, they're not the cheap aircraft ones. I've seen RS232 / RS485 operated servos, very expensive ~$500usd each whhich would be easy to design with..
