Angry Troubling online site selling - Laser Gloves

    Morning all,

In one of my CR4 subscriptions I came a thread :

These laser gloves are an amazing new application for lasers. Can anyone think of a use?"

Link to website selling said gloves:

    http://www.trinaryproducts.com/

I searched the site for safety information or the actual mw level of each module and could not find any.

So I have emailed the website asking:

'What is the mw rating of each laser module?"
"Whats steps have you taken to be in Compliance with the CDRH?"

I will report back if and when I get a response.

Maybe I am just cranky on a monday morning.

    LOL

    Morning Mr Grumpy

I just had a look at the site following your link... Clicked on 'laser gloves' and found this...

"Stats: Each laser is green (532nm) 5mw, IR filtered. Battery pack is 2300mah Low Self Discharge technology. Each pack is rechargeable and is good for 2+ hours of continuous use before charging. It attaches to your arm using a Velcro strap. Battery charger runs on 120v standard wall outlet. This package includes: Two gloves. 5 lasers attached to each glove (10 lasers total). 4 battery packs. 1 charger."

Still not sure this is a good idea though...

... And I AM grumpy on a Monday
If in doubt... Give it a clout?

    Thanks wookie,

After I posted I went back to re-read the description and noticed it had the power listed.

I am off in search of some Java.

    Happy monday everyone.

Yeah that doesn't necessarily look like a good idea to put into the hands of some people. The thing is though that you can buy MUCH more dangerous things such as exploding tannerite targets or bump fire contraptions for Semi Auto AKs and ARs. My point is that while it may not be totally safe, if there is a demand for something there will be a supply. If people hurt themselves with it then it is their own fault to an extent.

On the other hand if you own a business dealing with lasers and you are completely legit I could see your issue with it as you have paid your money and they are skipping steps and profiting off of it. I am of the belief that safety should be practiced with lasers on principle not because the FDA tells you to....although I like that their is regulation or else everyone and their mom would be doing it.

Just to add, Omnisistem has a similar product. I would like to warn everyone that Omnisistem is a horrible company. I bought a couple of their stinger blues and they are so ridiculously overpriced it's not even funny. Sure they use the 473nm diode which has a great color to it, but the design is silly. Stickers were peeling off within a few weeks, they only use DMX and have around 20 patterns and for some idiotic reason they have a serial port on the back instead of DMX and you have to use a weird pigtail with DMX in and out on it.

Edit: I didn't buy the Stingers after seeing them in person I just have a guy I usually go through that recommended them to me and I stupidly just said...sign me up.

    Hello everyone.

I am the maker of the Trinary gloves that "no_esc" linked to above. I have been a member (but not much of a poster) on this forum for a while.

To respond: These do in fact comply with the CDRH regulations. Each module is IR filtered and set to exactly 5mW.

The sticker on the back of the gloves acts as a warning sticker. I have been reluctant to post an image of the sticker until now since the URL is inaccurate, but for the illustrious members of photonlexicon I will release a couple of never-before-seen pictures.

You can click on these for a larger image:

I'm sorry if the images are poor. One of my greatest challenges with putting these on the internet has been that I am a poor photographer.

Mikey mentioned Omnisystem. I have seen a Omnisystem glove in person, and they are truly cheaply made. The gloves are one-size-fits-all, so they're rather floppy and loose. Everything is either stitched or glued together. Their package consists of a single glove which comes in a cardboard box with no peripherals. Trinary gloves come as a pair, fit to your size, with a messenger bag, 4 rechargeable battery packs, and a charger. Plus, Trinary Gloves have 5 lasers per hand whereas Omnisystem gloves have only 4.

Ohh.. we mustn't forget: The Omnisystem gloves don't comply with the CDRH regulations. The label on the Omnisystem gloves says "<5mw 650nm class IIIA". I didn't have a LPM handy when I was shown the Omnisystem gloves, but I did have a verified 10mW 635nm red diode to compare to. An actual 5mW 650nm laser should have appeared 1/4th the strength of my 10mw 635nm, but in reality they were almost exactly the same strength. It appears that the Omnisystem gloves are being labeled as 5mW when they are actually ~20mW.
