I haven't got a smoke machine yet, and still need to wire it up.

I get home on Wednesday. I want to get some solid days machining in.

Maybe I'll wire it up first to satisfy the starving wolves:P then machine bits after.

    Hey Chad, thanks man.

I'm very lucky to have a friend who spent 20yrs in the UK doing carbon work for F1 teams, McLaren no less!

He has moved back to Perth now and we've been helping each other out with our projects.

He told me how to make a mould and then he laid it up for me while I was his wide eyed eager assistant.

Wow! I can see why it costs money! it aint no 5min job.

We did a wet lay up with carbon and also fibre glass layers. its 1.5mm thick.

He is building an autoclave so he can get perfect surface finish with pre-preg fibre.

I told him about your mould making machining project. You guys need to talk

Now that's what you call a heat sink!

I take my hat off to you for all your machining skills, very professional.

Can't wait to see the final result.

    Thanks Chris,
the only worry I have about the carbon is if its not me mounting it on a truss and someone mashes it. It's a fairly rigid shape thought and the front and back panel have the strength and sit up higher to protect the carbon.

    Thanks Al,
laser cutting is my new best friend! the wooden mould parts clicked together like a jigsaw puzzle and didn't need much clamping when the epoxy was setting.

The heat sink is about 6-7 kg from memory... yikes!! but I'm being optimistic about the final weight being around 16kg.

I'm looking at it as a 10mm base plate that already has fins attached and eliminates one outer casing surface. It's 11kg with the stuff thats currently mounted.

Hey, come on. You can' t realistically expect touring gear to remain in brand new, scratch-free condition!!!
See them as battle scars, badges of honour, etc. Plus, you have the moulds, make a few spare carbon covers and get it over with

Hi Simon, thanks for the props mate.

While you're here, what sort of glue should I use to glue the window in place?

I was thinking of using silastic but then remembered about out gassing plus the potential for getting it everywhere.

Is the uv cure stuff an option? If so how rigid does it set? I'm worried if the front panel flexes too much it might crack.

The window is 3" CDAR 3mm thick.

    What do you think?

Or anyone else got any thoughts?

Thanks Andy, I should have a few more pics next week. I've got a few parts made I haven't taken pics of yet and there are some spunky bits that should have arrived in the mail to bolt on.

Hey Kit, I personally wouldn’t glue the window in; I’m making a retaining frame with gaskets for my builds, mainly for making it easier to swap out if ever needed.
