Default I hate myself aka RIP:Labmaster

Ugh, so I went to test a laser, and grabbed the wrong AC adapter, instead of 9v center pin NEGATIVE (PS: FUCK YOU Coherent!!!) I put a 9v center pin POSITIVE

    poped my coherent labmaster

had to replace some tantalum caps and got it to turn back on but it failed the self test, after some probing it seems like the 5v reg for the sensor section is borked, so ordered a new one from mouser and crossing fingers that I can bring it back to life

    I feel for ya brother.

I am working on a new invention called the "Oh Fuck Button".

It allows you to go back in time just 10 seconds. Handy for the "Oh Fuck" moments, just reach for the button and wham, your back just before the fatal moment.

I did the same with a Coherent Fieldmaster a while back. Hopefully you'll be ok when you replace the regulator, for after putting a new SMT device in my unit it worked fine again.

Sorry for your Labmaster... And great to know that I will have to avoid using another AC adapter when I will loose the original one, or at least checking for an inverted one.

p.s : Wayne, I'll take two "Oh fuck buttons" please, once ready

I hate mistakes but the expensive ones are always the worst.

I wonder who it was that invented that sinking feeling?

ya hopefully I can fix it because I surely cannot afford to replace it!

and I don't even think its worth calling Coherent, they would probably just laugh if I asked for a service manual and I would probably just cry if I asked for a repair estimate

Have faith, and with a steady hand, you'll be able to replace the regulator, getting it back up and running again. From memory it was an 8 pin SOIC so not too bad to deal with.
