It is a standard encapsulated SMD NTC. I did not design it.
I think what he noticed was the first thing I thought as well. It looks like from the picture that it is intended to be soldered to the board as is. This gives the appearance that the thermistor is going to land right next to the Fet . This of course wouldn't make much sense. I then realized that you solder short jumpers to get to the thermistor from the pcb.
