In the RAF we used to get our toe caps painted with Tornado nose cone paint - very shiny. I bet there is some amazing super-absorbent matt black available army/RAF surplus.

How much do you need? I used amorphous carbon powder and dilute yacht varnish. On a TEC that can make a power sensor to take several watts. The trick to darkening it is to get some airflow over the surface as it dries to prevent it settling with any shine on it. I got my powder from a brew kit supplier, but if you can get enough of it you could paint a wall.

Why polish your boots when they can be shiny AND radiation-proof?
