Default Illegal projectors being used by fellow PL Members

I KNOW that I have seen at least a few of you older members not caring about using legal projectors for shows here in the USA. Come on guys, you know better. If you have a home built, or chinese projector and just throw it in the mix, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. How can you expect anyone that comes here for information to know any better if you are not setting a good example for them, i.e. Selling your old projectors you used on a US Tour that are ILLEGAL. Break the unit apart and sell the components, that's way you aren't responsible for someone else following in your illegal footsteps.

I just looked on here and saw another US member buying a marked "No US Variance" projector, and talking about using them here in the USA. Now that's fine if you are a manufacturer and want to submit a new product report for them, but unless you are, ITS ILLEGAL. It seems as if it has now become commonplace to ignore the rules and do what you want. Let's try to set good examples and stop with the illegal laser shows, sales and purchases.

Set a good example by not selling illegal lasers or using them in public.

    Just my .02$......

Now why would this public interest issue generate an immediate flurry of private messages?!

I was going to hell for other unrelated items............And my use of lasers is ILLEGAL, even just in my own home I understand this and live with it. For me to have a show variance at my own home it would allow for inspection any time by the "laser police". I do not wish to open myself to more forced inspections on how I live my life behind closed doors. If i did shows for money sure I would walk the path and cover my ass so to speak.

We have no rules here in New Zealand. However I have just about finished refitting my chinese projector with an electronic shutter and will later fit a mechanical shutter.
Its by no way varianced . Heading that way appears to be the right thing to do.

There is absolutely nothing illegal about owning and operating a laser projector in your own home.

You can even take it out and use it in other places as well under certain conditions.

Technically speaking, the legal issues start as soon as you start using your projector to make money.

    Sounds clear cut.
I can take my 10 Gigawatt Laser into the street and shine it directly in people's eyes and it's all hunky dory as long as I make no money from it.

In the UK I believe that even as a 'volunteer' the Health and Safety at Work Act should be in force.
I understand that everyone has a duty of care here too, if doing something that may effect the public. I have heard of people being sued for clearing snow from the pavement, leaving an icy patch and people slipping, so government advice was not to do so.

Just like you would take your 50 cal into the street and start shooting engine blocks.
