    Default A Laser Odyssey

As mentioned in the DeLEM thread, on January 27th, I'm doing my first public shows here at the banquet hall followed by a weekend of anyone who wants to come visit being able to. Someone once asked for people to post pictures of how they set up a show so, I decided to take some during the testing started the past few days. There will be a lot more to the final product but, this will give you some ideas as to what I'm doing.

First up, the raw canvas. This is one end of the ballroom in the banquet facility I manage. You'll note the ceiling has three distinct "trays" each of which will hold a 12 x 16 foot scrim.

Scrim is being hung with 3/8' vinyl covered wire with tension supplied by bungee style cords.

Here is where it's positioned in the ceiling.

Here is what over $300 in mosquito netting looks like... this is a sick hobby!

    The first scrim in place:

    Now, the second scrim:

    Finally the third scrim:

The projectors are going at stage height and rear screen projecting through the scrim like this:

Now from a distance where the bulk of the audience will be:

Between the scrims and at either end are "totems" to hold the beam projectors:

On the wall behind the graphics projectors will be various effects that can be turned on or off such as BlissLights, lumia, non-coherent LED dance lighting, and other effects lasers.

The control station for the graphics is a rack with HD24, ADAT, ILDA splitter, UGC's, etc. The beam work will be done at the back in the center from multiple laptops with Quickshow and/or LivePro.

Next step is adjusting the images on the scrim which can be a time consuming process.

There will be more to follow but thought some might find it interesting.

We'll shoot video next Friday if not before but, does anyone know the workaround for putting videos on Youtube that are longer than 10 minutes?

Wow! You are a one man laser army, Brad! That is a most impressive set-up. I wish I were able to see it in person.

Wow, that is going to be an awesome show! Wish I could be there for sure. Could you post just a little info about the scrim you are using? Why you chose it, and where you got it? That would be great!

Pretty much wager pretty high Brad is using http://www.skeeta.com/html/netting/custom_sewing.htm like most of the rest of us.

I'd have to check but thinking noseeum in slate grey.

Yes, that is correct. The people there are great and can pretty much make whatever you want to your specifications. It is the Noseeum material in grey.
