Default HELP ID mystery item... calling all PL 'legends'

Sorry (N.G. et al)for the accidental edit gone wrong.\
.only wanted to correct my spelling of Legends
Ped at LPF has an item from his late brother and asked
    if anyone could ID it.

First to reply was sir 'laserist'-- his links are to a 'modern' version. see pics if interested in
this antique/vintage Maritime Navigation Device invented >100 yrs ago.

The other pic, on left, is from an eekbay listing and may be older or not..
seller gave no info and reading what is in the pics was impossible for me.
I like Ped's wood case more.
ebay price was $99 and ~$18 to ship--located in NJ

I imagine that Ped's is nfs

not many sold at Feebay but changes in the way they keep completed sales records no longer goes very far back..
IMO best chance of finding dates of these would be from a Maritime collector or forum.. I don't have the time.

This thread makes damn all sense since the OP removed the question from his post!
