Default FS: Coherent Sapphire 488-200 OPSL Laser

For sale is a fine Coherent Sapphire 488-200 OPSL laser.

Ideal for many purposes, including holography.

It includes everything you need to get going:
    • Laser Head (488-200 Rated at 200mW)
    • Power Supply (110-240V)
    • Blower (110V only)
    • All cables and connectors
    • PC Control Software
    • Printed manual
    • Engineers installation report
    • 2x Control Dongles for the laser power supply
    • A 200W UK -> USA power converter (not included if shipping to US. Not much point sending it, and quite heavy!)

The date of the laser system is June 29th 2007
And the EEPROM reads that the laser head has seen 940 hours. These units have been reported to last for 10,000-15,000 hours on average.
The engineers installation report states the laser outputted 206mW when first configured.

The Coherent laser head is packaged inside a plastic housing as it was badged an Lyt200s for use in a flow Cytometry machine.

I've used this laser for approximately 1-2 hours to have a tinker with, however using the PC software, I can't work out how to make the laser output more than 70-80mW. Perhaps there is a potentiometer on the power supply board to change this.

This is similar to the unit Mr. Smogthemog was selling a few weeks back.

I am willing to post worldwide, however with all the parts this system is quite heavy, so please ask for a postage estimate. Buyer is responsible for all related postage/customs/import fees and duties.

Payment is to be made by cash (on collection) or PayPal (buyer pays extra for fees) or online bank transfer.

    Open to all cash offers...

    Cheers,
    Dan

Very nice item! You may want to set a price range before we all start to low ball you. Cause I got $5 on it...

Yes it is similar, so similar i thought it was the same but it appears not.

Either way, i am kind of disappointed that a Coherent product is pulling a Laserworld type deal with their power ratings. It seems two products of the same type have a "typical" output rating of 35% of the rated output. I am sure to get support on either one of these lasers you would have to pay an extreme amount of money. Good luck with the sale, i am sure you will not need it since this is probably a well wanted item.

Edit: to allthat, i dont think $5 will get you one. Seriously, whats so valuable about this laser.

Regarding the power output, perhaps there is some setting that we (hobbyists) don't know about.. It's strange to me that both of the units that have appeared here on PL recently are doing roughly the same max output. To me, it's more likely to be user error than Coherent sending out sub-par units..

Also, it's interesting that all the serial numbers have been neatly and painstakingly removed.

I concur, I just simply don't know enough about OPSL's to fiddle.

    How so?
I have attached two more pics to clearly show all serial numbers. If there is any other information you need, please let me know and I will post it.

(Also attached is a photo of all documentation I've collected and put in a nice binder)

This is not an issue with the laser being physically damaged, I found out that the laser is limited by the software to run at a very low current normally to extend the life of the laser. There is a way to run it af full power.

    Hi Phil

I know someone who's bought one of these for exposing DCG holography plates. It will be interesting to see his results.

Here's the link to the product data sheet in .pdf format.
