One word.... Solder.... Not a lot, and very fine. It was a bitch getting in there with a fine tip since I lengthened the heat dissipation surface area. Thus, LaserBugs were invented. Any particular reason you'd want to do this over LaserBug's? I got some here for ya....![]()
I would recommend a 12w weller if your going to solder the lasorb to the diode... should be small enough to get you in there

Totally agreed,
It is best for me to solder quickly with a very hot iron than slowly with a lesser hot iron, as the time you are trying to melt that blob, the diode has already reached the critical temperature for long
