Function:



In X and Y direction, the limits of the area are defined in which the laser beam must have a minium speed. a CPU monitors the safety values when the laser beam enters this area, if the values are not met the safety will darken all 6 color channels.

The CPU records whether the laser beam was blanked, for passive safety.

A watch dog monitors the CPU and turns the laser dark after 0.01 sec.

The powersupply is monitored

After the voltage is active, the safety is ready withhin 8 seconds. When the laser safety boots the green LED blinks and the laser beam is dark / blanked. When “sharp” and sufficient scanner movment the green LED stays solid.

I'm currently trying to decide if it's sensible to use the scanner PSU to also power the scanfail board - because it's a +24v 0v -24v supply, it looks suitable, but since part of the reason for fitting the scanfail is to guard against the failure of the scanner PSU, I'd like to check that it's permissable.

As I understand it, the scanfail won't pass a signal unless it's powered up, so it seems to me that it should be OK - anyone else care to comment?

Also, the manual seems to suggest that the board may need cooling if operated at these voltages - how should that be done?

The board only needs 1 x 12V to operate, the 2nd input is only to check the voltage.

When there is no power applied the board will not pass trough the signals, and will only do this 10 seconds after power up (CHDR anyone )

The LM7812 (12V regulator) will get very hot when used with 24V input, therefor you need to put a isolated heatsink on it. when used with 15V its not needed.

I would choose to power it with the 24V from the galvo's You can also modify the board to run from a stable 12V psu.

You can use a L profile connected to your baseplate for cooling.

It's still in MS Word so can be edited, I can PDF it when ready.
