Ok, it's not using lasers, but you have to admit it's extremely well done.
And lasers could easy be used.
(You can skip 45 seconds in, as nothing really happens until 50seconds)

WOW!!!..........

Sweet.....
That was a really cool idea to make a show out of quadrocopters. I wonder where the sensors are positioned on stage because there early prototyping was IR senors where above.
Here is a video of KMel Robotics (same people that did this show) early testing:
Bugger they've already done it!
I've been thinking about all the interesting effects that could be achieve using Quad/hex/oct copters at events.
Damn telepathy
Great job they have done.
The ever expanding 'paint pallete" technoloy allows. It's exciting to know there are infinite possibilities left to explore.
Nice find

how is the 3d position held, it has to be some kind of light curtain or something...because gps is not accurate enough right???? hell i dont know, but I was impressed, very cool.

laserman532 on ebay
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt & selling it in a garage sale.
Damit too, I was already speaking Alex Kushleyev of Kmelrobotics to do this with Lasers.
Pat, It is done with an array of IR lighting and cameras for tracking.
If anyone wants his email address, I will PM it but be warned its HUGE cost to rent the units and tracking system.

positions are measured by a vicon motion capture system
there is another demo of quads playing tennis using the vicon system, worth looking up on youtube
I imagine it would be a bit expensive to rent; I would think the liability insurance must be high... Imagine if one of the engines fail on one of the copters while in the middle of the show! I have an AR Drone that one of the engines started to fail and they tend to spiral out of control while falling; I can picture a nasty chain reaction if an engine dropped out in one of the ones flying high.
Definatly cool looking choreography.
Love, peace, and grease,

That could TOTALLY rewrite the "infamous" RC helicopter vs Laser incident from SELEM a couple of years ago...

That is really neat, huge pain in the ass to get working correct but neat!
