.. yes, you can simply "estimate" the optical output of a laser diode with roughly 40 to 30 percents of the drawn electrical power ;) Viktor

Dave80 started a thread Diode Power specs in The Lounge
Hey guys I'm trying to understand the diode output power specs and how that relates to supply power. If we take one of the p73 images from DTR as an example, the current of 1.3A produces an output of 1.105 W (image below). Given the diode has a 2.2V drop, power to the diode as I understand...

it's very possible his meter is too slow and he's trying to measure a modulated output.

If you're only seeing 2V at the driver then something is wrong, but it's hard to say what without more info. The cable should definitely not cause any appreciable drop at any reasonable length. It's possible that the DAC actually has symmetrical differential outputs, and is putting out...

could also be some dc offset getting in there. try disconnecting the galvo input from everything else and see if it still happens. also try swapping the drivers. yes the tune wont be right but it should not be soo far off that it wont work. Plus if the scanner is already blown it wont matter. ...

Thanks for the reply. Just not something I've come across. I think the shutter is the best. Can't do better then a physical barrier. Grounding the inputs still leaves the possibility of a ground loop or a failed driver though a failed driver likely would take out the diode. But then if the...

Sound like a position sensor problem. Maybe check the connectors between galvo and amp for open wires or bad solder joints.

Wondering if anyone has any ideas? One of our sets of PT-A40 galvos (from lightspace) is experiencing a problem - when I power the laser on the X galvo rotates maximum and if i try to push it back to resting position, I can feel the motor resisting the movement and pushing back to that maximum...

Implementation changes from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some (fortunately not many) kill power, others drop a shutter, others shunt modulation inputs to ground. Many ways to skin the cat.

Agreed. Also it seems that the image is being compressed at the top and bottom of the scan field. (Note how the diagonal lines start out solid at the top and bottom, but are also nearly vertical, and then transition to more of a diagonal line but also start to pick up the jagged, stair-step...

That's pretty horrible. The jagged stairstep edges suggest you might have something funky with your software or DAC.

Have you tested at the DAC with no cable to see if that is the issue? I have never had the need to do anything special. It could be a bad cable or bad DAC.

If I remember right the brightness control is 0-5 volts, I have a Laserdoc as the DAC but I am not seeing voltages that hig, I am thinking it just may be the drop across my cable but I was also wondering is the signals from the DAC need a buffer, can you directly connect the lines to the driver...

Well the original question was "How are people doing this?" not "Where can I buy something to do this?" and I think Andrew answered along those lines. Not every post from a manufacturer has to be trying to sell something. Sometimes we just want to be part of the community and share a bit.

UPDATE! UPDATE!!!!! This tube looks very much like for ILA-120 or ILK-120 ion laser that was manufactured by Carl Zeiss Jena in DDR. Here are some pictures of the laser head that is being sold in Russia at the moment.

Yep, we do this, so does Arctos. Arctos I think is just an interlock loop. Ours have interlock, reset, and remote emission indicators, and the interface is electrically isolated and protected. We have a custom Ethernet switch with two external ports built-in that passes the compliance signals...

Looks perfect. Thanks! That is what I needed to know. Thanks. Is anybody wiring the estop/ start through the cat5 cable? Seem like a ethercon connector could be added to the projector that breaks out the unused pairs for the estop loop and restart button. Then a stagebox with ethercon...

We do similarly. We have our own PCB that mounts to the FB4 and serves to implement all of the required compliance features as well as adapts the FB4 connections to what we use in our projectors. The shutter signal on the FB4 (both the one in the color connector and the PWM output) is...
