When I was young I had endless enthusiasm and not much money. Now I am older and I have money but not as much enthusiasm. I guess that was part of the challenge though. I always tried to go beyond expectations with what little I had to work with.

That's pretty cool. I only had a TRS-80 Model I so I was pretty limited to sounds. I did play around with early wav files back then by recording voice through the tape recorder input into memory and then playing it back. It sounded pretty horrible since it was filtered to something like 3000...

That is a great build! I still have my 16 position double decker that runs off a single laser and 20 GM20's (it is in my basement setup). Here is my newest build, cause everyone needs lasers in there kitchen cabinets. (part of my 5 head system concealed on the main floor). I am using a...

For all of the Commodore 64 fans. I made this recording right after I got my Fostex A8 1/4 inch open reel 8 track tape machine in 1986. If you know about the C64 you probably know about its SID sound chip. I wrote an app that allowed me to poke values into the SID register addresses. I...

Is there a good tutorial anywhere on using LSX to create beamshows? I'm only doing beamshows at the moment so the other stuff is superfluous and confuses me. Total beginner here.

... its a pulsed fiberlaser @1064nm and up to 10kW pulse peak power (200ns pulse-length, 20kHz PWM, 20W max. averaged), so a complete different "world" But can be surpassed by CW fiberlasers in terms of "damage" -- have some with CW/QCW powers of 50, 60 and 85Watts, what's not this pulse...

That's awesome! What wavelength is that? I have an 80W sealed co2 but have not really attempted steel as I think the absorption wavelength of steel is far lower than 10.6μm. The way I have done steel/aluminum is paint, laser etch the paint, and then electro-etch the metal and strip the paint. ...

I am using 20180416. Do you mind pointing me in the direction of that latest update. That is definitely something I should try first for my issue. Also just to be clear about my issue I have been very lazy about it and have never tried to reach out to Andrew or really debug it for that...

Unfortunately, starting out I had G-115's. Later on these were changed to G-120PDs. The thieves not only stole the CR ion laser (the projector was too big and inconvenient to get to and it was left, thank goodness), but they stole the planetarium's Teac Model 5 Audio Mixer and 3440 4-track tape...

Are you using LSX to make choreographed timeline shows or are you using Live mode? I suspect you are using Live mode since you made mention of MIDI triggered beam effects. I have issues with Live mode dropping the DAC and sometimes crashing LSX. When I use LSX for timeline shows I have no...

Wow! Now *that* is a big lumia rig! :) Nice work Brian. PolishedBall has a custom lumia rig that has several different outputs that are somewhat similar to yours, but that huge crystal bowl on the turntable in your build is certainly unique. I don't think I've ever seen another build with...

It's a problem, but a second-order one. As everyone agrees in this thread, it's not given that it would even work. And if it does work, then some mitigations about dust / goo buildup may need to be developed. One option is to place a transparent to the laser and optics sheet of plastics or glass...

Sure, there will be debris from mechanical cutting as well, but one of the things I was trying to point is that with combustion/ablation, it's a much more problematic form of debris. Instead of cardboard dust and maybe bits of tape we're talking about very fine particulate, smoke and soot...

You got it! Your picture is exactly how you want to wire up the DC side. I would avoid calling the middle connection "neutral" though... Neutral is normally associated with 120 Volt AC circuits, so to avoid confusion you don't normally see that term used when discussing DC circuits. ...
