I'm not sure what that means for a collimated beam. I'd guess an aspheric lens would perform better than spherical, but achromatic seems unnecessary for an monochromatic light source.

First of all hello everyone, I was recommended to post my following question in this forum, I apologise if I'm posting this in the wrong area! For dabbling in SLS printing I'm considering buying the afforementioned Galvo Scanner. Sadly, as I'm not exactly into the laser business yet, I'm a...

I'm working on a simple beam expander for some Taipan lasers. One negative lens and one positive lens with a mechanism to adjust the distance between them. Commercial units all seem to use achromatic lenses. Is there any advantage to using an achromat over a simple (i.e. cheap) spherical lens when...

You all have some amazing machines. I started with the Printrbot Kickstarter machine and after several upgrades that were mostly toys, I now have a Prusa MK3S which I consider a proper tool. It's in another room controlled by a Raspberry Pi running Octoprint. 99.5% of the time I throw jobs at it...

I recently bought a CR-10s and have been having a lot of fun with it. Made some lamps with custom wired ws2812 addressable LED strips run off of an ESP8266 and WLED. Picture below for reference! Had a odd, related/unrelated question. Has anyone ever tried to create laser lumia off a 3D printer? I...

To add a little more about the laser 2 pin connectors on the ILDA board. The positives do "ohm back correctly to their respective R, G, B + pins on the ILDA connector. The Grounds for each seem to have commonalities amongst a few pins (not sure if this is as intended). This was done without the...

That makes sense, not sure what the 4 pin wire is, cannot see any writing. The post I linked to has almost an identical board. Just need to know how he set everything up lol. Here is the rest of the diagram, wasnt sure how much was needed but I supposed the whole picture is good.

Your diagram only shows part of the system. It's possible that the galvo driver is providing a +/- 15V supply to the rest of the components.

Looks like I may be pretty stuck. The lasers will only light up, ILDA or SD, when the existing amp and galvos are plugged in. I know this laser has a beam safety mechanism when the laser scan angle is below a certain degree. This may be preventing the lasers from firing up. So I suppose my next...

From the back of the ILDA PCB it looks like there's circuitry on the front, so it depends on what functionality that board contains. Your minimal effort solution to get the new galvos working is probably to leave all of the existing electronics in place and just connect the new galvos exactly how...

Greg, I suspect that Brian is correct in assuming that somewhere the dogloids are referencing a rough sine table. I can't imaging that it contained more than 32 or 64 values. As to the "Giraffe" nomenclature; The "giraffe glass" and the "giraffe wheel" were made from lenticular material like...

Thanks for reply. I actually have no care to keep the existing sd card setup. I primarily just want ILDA control I was thinking i could just use the current ILDA breakout board and solder the connections directly to the back (maybe not the cleanest)? My hopes were that I would only need to worry...

I bet the reason you lose output when you unplug the ribbon cable from the ILDA board is because the ILDA board is powered from the SD card board via that ribbon cable. The best way to hook up the new scanners depends on how all of the components currently connect and what you want to achieve with...

Thanks, Brad! I believe that only happened when I was flying manually...

I've always assumed there was a sine lookup table that was used to generate the dogloids. I was particularly impressed when using the dogloids to do beams.

Nice! I think what would be most nerve wracking on this flight is a) if it's too close to water, the system that identifies whats below the bird takes over from GPS and if it can't find identification references, you risk a flyaway and b) when it loses signal, it maintains it's speed and altitude...

Greg, You got them! Those ARE the dogloids. Sorry that Scott went a bit too far with his enhancement of contrast and saturation when processing the video. The rotating box (the only way I can describe it) also has another wrinkle to it. Depending on when the dogloid is selected, that specific...

Having a Part 107 License has its pros and cons. If you plan to fly for money then you definitely need it. There are rare locations I am able to fly under my 107 that I can't as a recreational pilot......legally. Then there is the "I didn't know that" scenario. Sometimes it's better to ask...
