I'm currently using a SS relay to activate my GM20 shutter, which is driven by 12V off the power supply (5V wasn't near enough movement).
I noticed there's quite a bit of repeating bounce in the shutter arm when it initially repositions. Any recommendations on ways to dampen this?
what are you using for a flag randy? if its too heavy, you get the bounce from the momentum of the shutter flag itself.
thie flag should *JUST* be wide enough to cover your full-on beam. it should be as light as possible too. to avoid the problem your running into now.
these are the standards. (what i use also)
also, when the shutter is on the "open" (allow output) it should be EXTREMELY close to the beam. movement should be as little as possible. all of my shutter circuits io had operate off of 5V. NOT 12V

Are you using a driver circuit, or just a direct 5 volts?
direct 5V. just wired a simple series circuit through a 5V power supply. i have a 1/4" input on the back of the projector to plug the E-stop in at show time.

You can use a capacitor in parallel with the GM20. Try somewhere around 10uF. It will help to prevent bouncing.
I used to use 30 ohm resistors in parallel with the actuator coils in series.
