I'm blown away...the dynamics in the LED light intensity is terrific. This first audio triggered test used the audio from a TV news channel and even it is mesmerizing. For this test and only for convenience, the new LED Light Box sits immediately below my suspended flat screen TV screen and it's speakers.

I can't wait to see what a music audio source does. I will post some video of it later tonight as an edit to this post.

Here is a simple test, not at all optimal, a bit over exposed in places. But the SP106E is surprisingly effective. I'm looking forward to improving the effect with some custom programming.

I've gained a lot of insight from playing with the SP106E controller (which does have it's own limitations) but my final efforts and design will focus around a combination of the Teensy 4.0 in combination with the Bela platform or visa-versa. I've been delving into learning their capabilities and programming.

Don't know if you've discovered it yet, but the Teensy audio shield has line inputs, as well as line outputs.The Teensy audio library has lots of Digital Sound Processing modules, like hi/lo pass filtering. IOW, you could isolate and separate the desired audio bands, then feed those signals into ADSR envelopes for the desired response... all achieved in software.
Simply pick and choose your desired DSP modules, from the left pane, in the PJRC online Audio Design Tool and follow the coding instructions on the right pane.
BTW, Reaper also has filtering and envelopes. The soundtrack can be dragged onto the timeline and the Teensy controlled via usbMIDI.

Yep, your comments are the direction I'm heading and then some. Automated imaging is cool but not as cool as automated imaging with some human real-time augmentations. That said, I should have video'd this demo at a higher frame-rate, this was done at 30fps and some flicker is evident.

Don't know if you ever looked at the beginning of this thread at the 1st video(s), can't recall if there are one or two but they use random blinking, thermal bi-metalic switched C7 XMas tree light bulbs. I did these back in '74. Watching these random light patterns while listening to music, any music, back then was (pardon the pun) very enlightening and instructive in terms of the way the mind is drawn to auto-correlate the visual color sequence stimuli.

Now I'm making progress and programming fun is underway, FINALLY!

Now that's pretty cool...and in a home lab.

I paused further development of this programmable LED LightBox project about two years ago after running into problems learning to use Visual Studio Code with the PlatformIO extension and upload compiled C++ code successfully and consistently. Sometimes one needs to step back from a project for a bit before trying again.

Well, this week I tried again and encountered the same problems but was more determined to find the root cause. After hours of investigation and collaboration on a github discussion group focused on PlatformIO I was able to rule out tons of things that were not the problem for why a perfectly working USB serial port my M5 StickC Plus ESP32 module was plugged into worked with every other piece of software to flash its memory except PlatformIO. Turn out, it was Malwarebytes (which I had decided to stop using) but hadn't uninstalled it yet. Malwarebytes was keeping this particular COM port "open" as part of its ransomeware monitoring feature.

So, this now opened the door for me to finish adapting Dave Plummer's NightDriverStrip code set that is based on the Arduino FastLED library specifically designed for driving programmable RGB LED strips like the WS2812B strips.

I created this resulting test video after some parameter tweaking in the NightDriver effects environments. This was my first use of the Pro Video camera software on my Galaxy S23 phone, so it ain't perfect but a decent 1st attempt. The soundtrack is coming from my Casio CTK-530 synth keyboard beat routine playing through my room speakers. The mic in the M5 StickC Plus picks up the sound, runs the audio through FTS software for beat and 16 channels of frequency band peak detection. These audio attributes are used to control the LEDs in the strip.

Since my last post, I took another break from most everything I'd been doing. The past 6 weeks or so I picked back up on my PlatformIO endeavors and have made, for me, hurdles of progress using it instead of the Arduino IDE and working on my programmable LED Lightbox, so hopefully I'll have something more to share in the months to come. Then I'll hopefully finish up my programmable lumia effects device before I turn 80 :o .

In the meantime, I gave my original C7 lightbox to my niece and her husband but before parting with it I took a long continuous video of it then married a section of the video with an old 70's fav of mine. Taken with my Samsung S23 in Video Pro mode, titles and music edited with Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 26, no video editing except for beginning fade up and ending fade down. As with my other videos of my early lightbox I've posted here and on YT, any correlation between music and light sequencing is all in your head. Its magicmatical probabilites...
