Laser Warning QS laser show on YT to Paul Mounsey's North

    Hi Guys and Gals

I'm just up loading a video of a show I made using Pangolin's new QS. The music is a remix of Paul Mounsey's North. Another virsion of this music is used on the Visit Scotland advert that is being shown on UK TV at the moment.

I have made use of some of the atmospheric que's that that come with QS package for this show to see how easy the Quick time line is to work with.

    Hope you like it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D82sWoMnS3o

    Nice show, Carl!

Tell us - about how long did it take you to create it? And how easy was the process?

    Hi Adam

Thanks for the approvle. The show took me a couple of evenings to put together.
The process of building the show on the time line is quite easy. The hardest part in this case I think was working out the BMP of the music. If this is not right then the job can be Quite hard as the beat bars on the time line are of no help to you. Chosing which Cues to use and where was the most fun part. Once I had all the Cues in place I went back and applied Fade in's and out's and verius rotation effects where needed.

There are some issues I have with QS but I'm not going to gripe about them here as it has been mentioned that Pangolin is working on the next build with the time line being one of the main things they are looking at.

Anyway this show building is good fun and will be doing more shows when time permits.

Thanks for the extra info, Carl! I've been watching the development of Quickshow for a while now, and though I know there have been some bugs with early versions of the software, Pangolin has been working overtime to get it perfect.

I am hoping that Quickshow will have an easier learning curve than Showtime does. It seems that a lot of QM-2000 owners get freaked out by all the things they can do in Showtime, and thus they never actually create a show with it. Hopefully Quickshow will be a "bridge" to get new people into creating shows. (And yeah, I know that we'll be waiting quite some time yet before the QM-2000 version of Quickshow is available, but that's OK. I'm sure it will be worth the wait!)

Actually, I'm rather glad that Pangolin released it for the FB3 first, as I think there were even more FB3 users out there who were stumped by the LA Studio software compared to LD-2000 users who couldn't wrap their heads around Showtime. But everything I've seen and heard about Quuickshow suggests that it's a lot easier to use than either LA Studio or Showtime, and your statement above regarding the time to create your show (just a couple nights work) definitely bears that out.

Here's hoping that by this time next year we have lots more shows on the FTP server to watch!

    Thumbs up

Very nice! I can't wait to try QS on the QM. When you say it was hard to find the BPM; can you not see the music waveform in QS? I don't think the "add music" feature had been implimented by SELEM so we didn't see how that interface looked.

In my experience so far, you can see the waveform, but it is not too accurate for timing events, I'm not able to zoom in too far. I am going to try the beats alignment.

Carl B, how did you save the show and then reload it? - Tim

Yes you can see the wave form at the top of the time line but the detail is not too well defined so trying to locate the bass drum that tends to beat to the BPM is not so easy. I have also noticed that when you Zoom in or Zoom out the time line, the timing of events can drift away +/- slightly from the point in the music you set the event too. Too be able to see all of the wave form of the music track, before you start building your show you need to place a cue on the time line and drag it all the way to the right then slide the zoom bar below the the time line to the right and keep on doing this until you come to the end of the music wave form. This could be an avoidable job if Pangolin addresses this issue in the next build by having the length of the time line change to the length of the music when you load it up.

To save the show you just drag the time line preview window to an empty cue then saving the work space. I am hoping the location of the music and the BPM are saved to the cue and are reloaded when you copy the show back to the time line in the next build as well. I have to say that reloading the show cue back to the time line is a bit odd in that you have to right click the show cue, point too Special Copy and then clicking Copy to Tabs. I think that just dragging the show cue to the time line would be the easyest way to reloading the show.

Dispite these little issues that I'm sure Pangolin will get on top of soon, QS is a nice piece of software to work with and building the show was good fun.
