Every laser projector I've ever seen flickers, so it's a matter of whether it flickers more or less than others.. 45kpps will obviously be smoother, but I feel that power is more important for your application. In this case you can only have your cake and eat it too if your budget will allow. In other words, if you can afford 5W and 45kpps, go for it. If not, go with power over scan rate (for this application).

    Thank you all!
There's nothing I can suggest really as I don't have experience of outside projection. Green is always the brightest colour as I'm sure you know, but I thought some others had used colour before for building projection.

WL: thanks, yep, it is possible to use RGB but you need more output, at least 5W, and those are expensive...

    EF: Thanks.

I Will try to find other alternatives, perhaps I could find a 5W 45K pps.... will keep you posted.

Flicker in a scanned laser image is caused by the image having too may points. And if your image flickers badly at 30Kpps speeds, it will probably flicker at least a little bit at 45K speeds. I've seen images that were too complex even for 60K galvos. You need to learn to reduce the complexity of the image (keep the point count at around 1000 points or less) to eliminate flicker.

I currently own a set of 50K galvos. However, I *never* run them that fast. Instead, I have them tuned for 30K speeds, because I can scan a much wider angle at the lower speed. True, I can't display very complex images without getting some flicker, but that's just the nature of the beast. All laser projectors do this. To me, I'd rather have the wider scan angle. Also, most of the artwork that came with my controller (I use the Pangolin LD-2000 Intro) is already optimized for 30kpps to begin with.

Finally, remember that the flicker will be more apparent during daylight hours. At night, the flicker will be far less noticeable.

If you have a choice between more power and faster scan speed, I'd take the option of extra power first. Why? Because at the power level you're considering, it's a big jump in price to add 2 watts of power. On the other hand, it is not nearly as expensive to increase your scan speed from 30K to 45K. In fact, It would be cheaper for you to upgrade the scanners to 60K speeds than it would be to replace the 3 watt green laser with a 5 watt green.

It also depends on the beam quality. Tighter beam will be more crisp and visible then thick one. It does make lot of difference. Especially for graphic - which is probably what you want to do. Rather 3W Coherent based projector with good fast scanners than 5W bad beam (wouldn't fit your budged).

Dr. Lava's Ilda SOS may help you here Kuerton as its a programme designed to optomise the points in ILDA files:

I'll make you the same deal for a 5Watt, analog modulated, with 45k scanners for $12k. Send me a message @ Slicklasers@msn.com.... And I'll throw in your variance application and first show report.....

What power did you end up going with? Your pics look good!

    Hey EF, thx...

We are going with your recommendation, a 5W projector, it will definitely have more impact ... but we are still looking for the right one... scan speed, etc.

    Regards,
