    Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice on getting
direct Pangolin service. I'm happy Marc
is in the loop though. I'm not in a super rush
and that way we all learn a little bit more
about the things to look out for. I guess
a couple of assumptions were made by us all
in the order process. Marc and I were just thinking
the options we had to consider were a CDMA or a
GSM modem thinking a quad band modem would
auto select the local band. Pangolin probably supplied
a modem with US default settings not knowing it was
destined for Australia. No biggy, it will all come out in the wash
    I'm sure.

Thanks again, it's nice to know there are
people looking out for us and so ready to help.

    Much respect
    Kit

    Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd let you know
how I went with my modem problem.

Thanks to Marc at CT Lasers, Justin and techs at Pangolin, I know what to do now.

This problem wouldn't accure very often but it might be helpful info for anyone using their MultiTech IMU SMS
modem in a region using different GSM bands to where they live or for someone who bought a secondhand system.

Here is an excerpt from an email from Pangolin.

We program the modem to work where it is being shipped to (in this case the US).*

This problem is easily solved with Hyper Terminal as your client suspected. The reason that your client cannot see anything in the Hyper Terminal is that we turn the echo off with the command ATE0. If he were to run the command ATE1, he would then be ale to see what was being typed in the Hyper Terminal window.
    *
I would have him run the following series of commands within Hyper Terminal.
    *
ATE1* (this is a command to turn echo on so that you can see what is being typed)
AT+WMBS=5,0* (this command switches the modem to the alternate set of frequencies)
ATE0* (this command turns echo back off)
    *
    *
After running these commands, the modem*will work on the 850/1900 bands.
    *
The antenna that is included with the modem is the quad band antenna. There is no need to do anything with it..
