I've seen some of them argue this stuff with professionals that really know what they're talking about. Very unfortunate.

Basically, the simpler the better over there, IMO.

Thats why I posted the Graph from O'Hagan... Cant argue against fact.....

    Honorable Buffo scribe:

More to the point, no one has yet mentioned any of the MPE calculations needed to determine if the effect is safe. And because of this, they've missed a key fact. Remember that it's not beam power, but irradiance (or power per unit area) that is important. Thus the statements that "15 mw is safe" or "15 mw is unsafe" are both equally wrong, since without a beam diameter measurement (and at least an approximation of the divergence) you can't know if it's safe or not. This was never discussed in the thread, even by the purported experts who claimed to understand the issue.

    END scribble

Part of the problem is IF I give them the MPE calculations they WILL try to use them, and I doubt many of them could correctly input the exponent into the calculator...

Worse yet, if I give them the simplified method, someone is REALLY gonna get hurt... And they would simplify it even more..

EVEN worse, is they would NOT bother to do the cumulative portion...

You cannot tell someone something they do NOT want to hear.... And the number of people over there who sport retinal burns as a Badge of Honor is Abhorrent..

    I can't win.. I can't Lose, I can't even play the game...... So I posted O'Hagan's table...

This is perhaps the most important point of all. A large portion of the folks on LPF don't really want to know the truth. You are to be commended for fighting the good fight to bring knowledge to them, but you can't make them listen. Sigh...

In the extreme. That is nothing to be proud of. Ashamed of, maybe, but never proud.

Good move. Though I'm reminded of a quote from the end of the classic 80's film "War Games", when Joshua (the W.O.P.R. computer) comments that "the only winning move is not to play." I think that applies equally to LPF and global thermalnuclear war.

Yeah, I don't think you can win over there. Pat's example of a reach-around line is apt. They're too busy jerking each other off over there to listen to reason.

Kudos to MixedGas and Electrofreak for trying to inject some facts into the discussion over there. I admire you both for your patience in dealing with the rampant stupidity that infects the place. But I just don't have the will to join you. I'd lose my temper and say something nasty, and then just like Pat I'd be banned.

    Sigh...
