Default Off topic : Flight recorders for cars

After being followed and harassed for 12 miles tonight by a guy who came barreling into a intersection at 65 mph in a 45 zone, while I was making a right on red. (conditions rain, dark black pavement, dark black truck, blacked out windows, dimheadlight bulbs on truck). I looked left twice and did NOT see him at all. my side of the intersection is down hill and hidden by a guard rail, I was pulling up slowly.
He came right of the painted line into the berm. Wondering if he had his lights off, ie much older low rider custom truck..

I will not go into the details, but suffice it to say I wish I had not left the phone in the apartment, and wished I had a concealed carry permit. (I know, you soddy americans and your lust for guns. Those who know me, know I would avoid a firefight at all costs)

I have not had a wreck in 9 years. I'm on the road more them most folks..

I'm wondering, how many of you would support "flight recorders" on cars, and I mean beyond the 30 seconds of engine and transmission data, currently recorded in most American cars, ie traffic state, gps position updating at say 5 hz, and the condition of signals and glare around you?

I am the burdoned party under the rules of the road in this one, but I keep wishing for a data recorder, as more and more people drive "dumb" with phones.

    Steve,

Are you alright, after commuting 80-100+ a day for years I understand bad drivers. That doesn't matter are you okay, you are posting but your health is what matters. I will keep you in my prayers, I would call you but it is too late. Heal well, don't trust the insurance agent, don't settle I made that mistake.

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

Near miss, he followed me around town after a near miss. He waited down the road ahead of me, pounded on the horn, Tried get me to get out of the car twice. NO way, ran around town tailgating me.
There are some details I'm leaving out, cant afford to feed a insurance company ... Not a scratch on my vehicle, and none on his. But by no means 100% my fault.

Real anger management problem on his part, real stress situation on mine. I mean I've had gangbangers pull a DJ whatshisface and draw guns (more or less to show off) while besides me at a light in Cleveland, last december , but this one was angry. Gangbangers were smiling, that was a clue that they would not fire...
I'm ok, but this one needed documentation... This state does not require front plates, I have no clue who he was, and had NO intention of following him to find out...

Wow, Steve I'm glad you made it through this ordeal OK. You made the right decision to not get out and just drive around till he gave up. Also glad there was no damage as things could have gotten ugly. Hopefully that's the last of it.

    Not funny.

These things are becoming poplular over here, mainly for proof in insurance cases, but very useful for road rage incidents too.

Glad you're ok, Steve. Some folks are in terible need of attitude adjustments.

I have thought a great deal about installing a camera in the car, much like the cops have. The cam is the easy part. I have NO IDEA how to get OBD2 data from the stream onto the tape (or what ever recording device). Eventhough I work on cars for a living, we don't do engine work therefore i have no knowledge of obd2.

As for the GPS, i dunno. Maybe i'm one of the kooky privacy folks; so far as buying a GPS jammer.
