Just one question that I asked myself: Would a tv studio allow somebody to fire high power density lasers in an uncontrolled manner around multi hundred thousand $ equipment, celebrities, studio audience, all of the above whilst broadcasting this live on tv?

Add to this the fact that Romania is one of the first countries to adopt the new zero tolerance EU law governing the use of lasers.

Give the guy a break, he is no novice.

I am not taking any offense to anyone and I am not even a little bothered by it, I just simply do not agree I should divulge our operational procedures to anyone. I worked bloody hard to learn what I know and am certainly not handing my knowledge out on a free for all just because a few think its there right to demand it. I could go into great details and likely write a small book on the subject , there's a thought anyone want to pay?

Ah a group buy for Andy's safety handbook.

    Whats next?

As is your right. It's clear, however, that PL members will ask you about it at length (and rightfully so).. Given that fact, I should hope that it doesn't bother you and I would say that any future videos should be posted with that knowledge at the forefront of your mind. That way there are no surprises on either side.

Also, the calculations required for determining the safety of any laser show are not trade secrets. The methodology is common knowledge, and I would hope that your company's practices meet or exceed the standard quidelines for safe shows. I would imagine, given your experience, that they do.. but you certainly can't fault people for asking.

You know MPE is a guide not a grantee of safety ?

I give you one example, a guy does all the calculations, adds a beam expander to be within the guidelines and there's a child at the event that runs over to play with the nice green light and manages to get right up to the device and sadly gets the beam right in the eye. What calculations would help. I tell you NONE and that is because safety is more than just calculations which every serious company should take care of. I would simply love to have time to visit everyone's shows and be sure I would spot things a lot would not realize were dangerous.

You know, I like it that you guys bring up the subject so strongly but instead to waist energy by telling me what I should do why not make an international forum for laser event safety and voice your opinions to others who are really making problems.

    Default To me...it is simple

If andyf97 states that "This performance met all of the eye safe criteria (rules and regulations) dictated by the country / Provence performed in, under their jurisdiction and in no way placed any audience member, performer or crew in any potential for eye hazard" then that is good enough for me and the subject should be dropped.

But if he dosn't make that statement...

I thought the display was awesome...but you will notice I questioned its "eye safe criteria" also.

    anyway...move forward

However, I'm just very curious how you've managed to protect the camera's for the laserbeams. There's at least one camera crane flying above the set that will absolutely get hit by beams during the mirror-ball part.

I have to agree with Bart, hitting audience (clearly visible) on a 12-15m distance direct from 8W OPSL on paper (10W real output) with a dotted frame like the fingers is, even with 20% intensity using a beam attenutation map, quite strange.
it wasn't stated that the projectors were running full power, as the intensity could have been 1% of the actual output...
the mirrorball effects are quite effective i must say, they were used yesterday on ASOT 450 with Armin van Buuren in Bratislava, with RGB lasers it looks impressive
lasershow was done by guys from Kvant and i don't question them for firing those lasers and reflected beams into my eyes either, i believe they're professionals and if they blind several people on even one event i guess they'd run out of bussiness really quickly, so they take care to make safe show
it's similar in IT, your systems must run 24/7 and if you have several outages, your reputation goes down really quickly and your clients leave you, so you try to do your work as best as you can

I'd pay hundreds of dollars for an "andy lasershow handbook"

I hold him similar regards to hugo bunk and other laserists the majority of us are inspired by.

Keep up the good work mate, i'll gladly take a shot in the eye at one of your shows (from a laser).

I think asking these question on a PUBLIC forum is doing more harm to the industry then nice shows andy is doing....

If you don't want a commentary on your video, THEN DON'T POST IT ON A PUBLIC FORUM.. WTF do you think will happen? We all just watch and ask nothing?

You know mccarrot, you're kind of dense bud. But that's OK, some day you'll find someone who'll love you. Someone who's looking for that "simple-minded" kind of guy.
