well that's a nice design! I bet one could even add a buffer transistor to the 317 and peak to tens of amps (industrial darlington? it has been tested by a friend up to 20A with the classic shunt feedback circuit, the only difficulty is to find a suitable shunt)

the buffer transistor should work like a pinch as it makes a darlington pair with the output transistor of the 317, if I'm correct
I'll try to make a prototype out of LM358 opamps to test at none to low frequency modulation

if needed, I also have some 200Mhz analog devices video opamps with +/- 15Vdc supply rails
I'll try to have a prototype laid out and experiment with different opamps (those AD video amps should behave nicely with their ultra low slew rate)
