Default FieldMax II and PM10 question

    Hey everyone-

I just got my brand new fieldmax and pm10 today. In the software, there is a wavelength box where i can change the wavelength. there i sno need to do this due to the fact that this is a thermopile head correct?

what is the wavelength box for? I physically *can* change it if i want to, but i dont want to am i right? Is this if i was using an optical head?

    thanks!

    Hey,

The wavelength setting won't skew your results much. As far as I understand the matter, that setting is when you wan't absolutely as accurate results as possible.

This is due to the coating on the thermopile, no matter how good it is, its absorbency will not be complete (1) throughout the entire spectrum. It may read a bit high (1.04) at 650nm and low (0.98) at the blue spectrum. I believe the wavelength setting is used in conjuncture with testing done in lab in regards to the coating to assure to the end user that the readings attained are as accurate as possible.

The calibration of all the wavelenghts are stored in the heads connector, with the software and also with your standalone meter you can select the correct wavelength for the most accurate reading.

But the difference between the wavelengths are in the miliwatts, so for normal use you can leave it at 530nm
