    Default Hello from Mi

Hello, New to the laser scene, but have a good electronics background. I am looking forward to learning more and becoming an active member of your community here. I hope to setup an old commodore 64 based laser controller and get going with the basics that way. I have a huge passion for commodore equipment and that is what actually brought me to these forums. I acquired some equipment for the C64 that was used to control laser shows, however I had no software or documentation. The internet turned up this site and a thread where a whole system existed, that needed restoration. I hope to get my hands on this and detail the restoration process here on PL. So is anyone else on the forums from Michigan? Does anyone have any info about the older commodore controlled system? Thanks looking forward to talking with everyone and will appreciate the guidance as I start to make purchases.

    John

    Smile Greetings!

    Hi John!

Welcome to PhotonLexicon. Glad to have another Commodore enthusiast here! I'm an old Amiga fan myself, but I went over to the dark side back in 1998 when I bought my first PC. Sigh...

Please do us a favor and fill out your profile information. You mentioned above that you were located in Michigan, but I'm sure people will forget that as time goes on. It's handy to have the little reminder in the upper right corner of a person's post.

We do have a few members in your neck of the woods. DocJohn lives in St. Ignace, and Whitcher88 is in central Michigan someplace (if memory serves). Also, I'm pretty sure CDBeam is also from lower Michigan.

I'm originally from Wisconsin myself, though I'm in South Carolina now. We've got a couple more active members in Wisconsin though, including 300Evil and Mliptack. Further south, in Ohio, we've got even more members, including Mixed Gas (aka Steve Roberts), who is the guy that wrote nearly all of the Ion Laser section of Sam's Laser FAQ.

So yeah, you've got some laser enthusiast's living near you! With a little luck, you might be able to arrange a meeting with some of them to share ideas. And if you're really interested in meeting other like-minded laser folks, then you might want to consider making the trip to Newton, NC over the weekend of August 21 and 22 for the 4th annual South Eastern Laser Enthusaist's Meeting (SELEM). Just do some searching for "SELEM" here on the forums and you'll soon learn what all the excitement is about.

And again, welcome to the forums. Good to have you here.

    Adam

Until he can find a job back at his home (unlikely) mixedgas is in Ft Wayne Ind.

Just a bit south of michigan..

    Hey Polishedball,

Thanks you I got nothing done on my projector last night. I followed a link you posted in the other thread about your C64 web site and surfed through a bunch links you had to other sites. 3 hours later I was downoading Planet MULE and putting Ben Danglish ringtones on my cell phone! Ah, the good old days.

Glad to have you aboard! See ya,
    Mike

Default Grand Rapids is a very nice city ...for MIDLEM ??

    PB,

Welcome to our little island of passion for coherent light. I am located in Monroe, MI....just North of Toledo , OH. My dog...Terrawatt also likes laser beams ......Last night I fired up my RGB projector.....just doing some final measurements to put a cover over the build....and I looked.....and saw my dog with a fixed gaze on the static beam........next thing I see is her jaw going up and down....then she jumps up and tries to bite the beam....unbelievable !!!!!...Needless to say..I put a beam blocker to protect her eyes.....so...now....perhaps her new nickname will be ..." Bonehead Beambitter "....anyway.....yes....feel free to PM or post any build question......I can tell you a few things NOT to do !!!

There has been talk of having a "Mid West Laser Enthusiasts Meeting"...... MIDLEM ?? but we have not got outa the talking phase........I guess we need some catalyst…..My opinion is that if and when we have a meet……It should be in a central location for all of us….and it should be somewhat close to a bigger city. The “ Bigger City “ desire is to keep the wife happy !!!.....and ease to drive there also. We ALL serve many masters !!! hahaha….But…not in a Big City….hotel accommodations would be way too expensive !! Any other interest in this ??????

Anyway……It is a very, very friendly group….with very little "AssHat" drama going on !!! with a very dedicated Moderator and an amazing wealth of knowledgeable members…Enjoy the show !!

CDBEAM ( Bob )…..and the Bonehead Beam Bitter

I just put some C64 schematics and program code printouts in a envelope. I want it back when your done.
The data will be kept confidential due to company names listed in the printouts, one company still being in business.
PM me with a mailing address.

A meet sounds like a great idea, perhaps a thread dedicated to this should be started instead of hidden in my hello.
