    Question Buffer overflow on postcount?

    I noticed something like this:

Posts: 2,147,483,733 with some nicks on this forum, is it just some fun or something is rotten somewhere?

    Cool

There are two people with post counts above 2 billion. I am one of them, Diachi is the other.

A while back, Spec changed my post count to the maximum possible number for a 32-bit signed integer. (2,147,483,647) We all had a good laugh. Then he changed Diachi's post count to the same number, plus 1! So he was "ahead" of me.

But, of course, since then we've both continued to post, and since I am still suffering from persistent oral diarrhea, my post count has once again eclipsed Diachi's.

If you're curious, here's a link to the thread where it all started.

    Buffo's post count is genuine
Diachi's post count is admin having a laugh...

Hehe! Actually, I think my true post count is only around 8,000 or so. But yeah, Diachi was below 500 at the time. And we all had a good laugh about it. (It's just a number, after all...)

Wouldn't it be an integer rollover? If you see a large negative post count then you know it's broken.

Clearly the post count isn't stored as a 32 bit signed integer, since the count is still increasing.
