Unhappy Scientifica & Cook Vintage HeNe laser - Damaged in transit :(

I got hold of a rather beautiful old HeNe laser the other day and upon its arrival, via UPS (UK), it was damaged.
The guy who sent it didn't realise how fragile the tube was and just popped it in a very large box along with the very heavy PSU and just chucked a few lumps of polystyrene in there with it all. It was a bit of a mess when I received it.

Unfortunatly the laser tube is damaged beyond repair which is a massive shame as it was a truly fantastic peice of equipment. The hollow bore tube at its smallest diameter has two large magnets bonded to it and i am guessing the jolting of the box during transit stressed the tube so much it cracked. The magnet was floating about inside the head when it arrived

I know it's a long shot but If anyone has a tube for one of these I will be interested.
    Thanks
    Jim

That's a shame. Looks like it was in mint condition too. I cannot believe how some people ship things. You must have a mild form of retardation or brain damage if you think a shipping courier is going to handle your package carefully. Whenever I pack anything fragile I take my time and make sure it can survive a 4 foot drop test and heavy stuff dropped on it. I just assume it gets there in one piece and pay a little more for a big box with good packaging,,, why, because I care.

    Wow Jim, that's lovely.

I guess if Bob Hess sees this he'll perhaps know where there's a tube, or if not i'll bet he's interested in the laser.

Nice find, and such a shame it didn't make it to you in one piece.

Shame, looks like a nice laser Jim. Well, before the United Parcel Smashers monkeys had their wicked way

I saw, by doing a google, that Bob has one similar to this so I really hope he has something he may part with or as you say may well be interested in it. It's useless to me now in it's present state but I would LOVE to resurect it. Scientifica & Cook where talking a grand to repair it which on the phone, they sounded like they could do!

I know I have had problems in the past with so called 'badly' packaged laser equipment but I learned my lesson from that, £800 worth of lesson!, this was 10x worse than the stuff I sent. How the guy ever thought that the very heavy PSU wasn't at any stage during it's journey, not going to hit the head inside the same box, is just beyond me!.

Iv'e got to admit Simon, this picture viewing business on this forum is just utter wan#k - I am an impatient bugger and I too just give up half way through trying to look at ow't!
