    Default 60X High Pressure

Anyone know the best way to shock a 60X back to life? I left it sit too long over winter without running
and now it won't light. I have access to a RF neon tube tester but, not a real Odin coil. Any advice greatly
appreciated.. The power supply is an Omnichrome 150 and I hear the starting tick, just won't
    light.

    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hey Steve,

Do you think a small RF neon tube tester would be enough power to re-light the tube?

no, but a old scr style lamp dimmer, a 1 uF 400 V plastic HV cap and a old ford style ignition coil, plus a spark plug might.

here is a pic for where on a Omni, the 60x head I opened here has a national sealed mirror tube in it, DRAT!

    omni-sparkin.bmp

Right between the cathode end bell and fins on a ALC tube is the sweet spot, high on the fins, not down near the tube. but strangely not on the edge of the fins, but down a bit towards that orange Oring that is often there.

If I go home this weekend you get the right shot, if not, next weekend.

Marc, I can loan you my spare coil, or you can have some fun and build

The Great Depression II Dangerous COIL CLONE !!!!!!

Its not dangerous if you build it right, but it wont radiate as much gentle energy as the real BD-10 Oudion coil. But anything connected to 110 without careful thought is dangerous to say the least. I didnt put this in the FAQ for a reason.

The real insulator in a Oudin coil is a piece of ebonite, a hard rubber used in HV work, and it does not have a hole in between the rod halves, just a say 1/16th inch thick "diaphram" between the metal. And it wraps back about a inch either way. A piece of lexan or other plastic rod might just work fine.

The secretary will of course disavow all knowledge and I will delete this post as soon as you say you've seen it. I would prefer you call me and talk to me before you build this, because if not done right, you can end up meeting the Almighty before your time.

    See pic, Steve
