Well heck, that is very cool then because it is very difficult to get it right (unless you are using fibers with a HUGE core (>500 micron) (plastic 1mm fiber should be NO problem)

The scanner(s) move in an arc so when it gets to its first position launcher, that particular launcher must be aligned perpendicular (in both axis's) for it to couple properly to the fiber face, the more launchers the more the problems. Also the scanners must have perfect repeatability mechanically and thermally to hit the same place over and over, because if at least those two conditions are not met you will have a pile of problems.

I explained all of the above so that anyone who want to try it out would know what to look for, explanation was not necessarily meant to inform QUAZAR.

    Hey Quaz -

...yeah, not to be 'confrontational' or anything, but I'd have to see pix / video of that to believe it - I'd believe GM-20s with 6-position launcher / mini-table in a snap, but scanners into fiber?? Unheard-of... (and 6800s, at-that... not-exactly the most-precise galvos to-use for something like that...)

I can't even imagine why you'd want to use galvos vs GM-20s / positioners, since all the futzing-around with the extremely-precise beam-positioning you'd need + thermal-compensations (which would likely change during the course of an eve, etc) would surely be on-par with the amount of 'work' it would be to whip-together a small 6-pos table / launchers...

I mean, I just got done doing a show last week with scanner-based beam-bounces (cause we only have 2 table-systems small-enough to have-done the gig) - 4 systems, off 8" truss and 12" stage bounce-mirrors (40 mirs, total ) - using 6800s - and there was drift, even with that much 'slop' on the mirrors - I had to do at least one 'offset' correction (granted, minor..) to each system every day before show-time... I can't imagine doing 6 fiber-launchers... even if the launchers were all super-close / crammed right-up to the galvo...unless, as Pat posed, these were like 'firehose-diameter' fibers...

Again, not to be 'confrontational', but would be truly keen to see pix of that, working - that would be a 'new one' on me... ...And I think even-on our own dear 'LaserWizard', Mr Tim Walsh, the undisputed 'LordGodKing of Fiber-Heads'...

Anyhoo, not sure if pix are even available, but would be happy to 'get skooled' on this-one...

    cheers..

It is still available. I have been playing with it around here but have no plans to use it in the future so it is just another thing that needs to go.
