hello people, it might be a silly idea, but has anyone thought to use a ssr (solid state relay) for modulation?
Have a few of these, so i'm thinking on a new aproach.
Could it be done? Apreciate your opinion.

Hi Laserist, is that all you have to tell me?
I know that 1.25 kHz is not great speed, much less for those who want to kill mosquitoes. But imagine the integration.
If my problem was the speed I also have components till 50Mhz.
Now seriously. I said that I have a bunch of these and I would give them a try if it works, then I'm going to use the other ones that are used in T1 multiplexers.![]()
you could probably link up ten or so to 'share' each modulation signal (kind of like the cylinders on a V12 engine etc), but the problem with relays is that you'll only have TTL modulation, i.e. only on or off, which would just look pants.
not to mention the relays would be really bulky compared to an electronic driver.
Also, i know a lot of lasers (DPSS at least) modulate better when held at a current just below the lasing threshold which again would be difficult to do with a relay
