Hey fle -
I think you missed his 'point' - I'm gonna 'change the story' a bit to see if I can make it (and make sure I didn't 'miss the point' either...) - What if - instead of 'calling out' to "Write it down... write it down...", Sam - walked-over to Darryl - and said: "hey, that's really cool! How are you getting that?" and OBSERVED / WROTE DOWN FOR HIMSELF the 'settings'?...

...And if you retort, 'well, maybe Sam was 'busy'...well in this 'story', I'd venture that the only thing 'Sam' would have been 'busy-with', at this moment would-have-been downing his third martini - and possibly-even, out of some 'broad's navel' vs a glass...- but So What - even if he WAS 'busy', the point is - HE didn't make the EFFORT to GO and discover / explore it himself - he wanted Darryl to do the 'work' - and then - as sooo many
" Managers " -do, (or, really, ANYone who has not EARNED thier 'stripes' yet, thru experience...) just stand-back and bathe in the adulation / benefits (and probably, 'broads'...).
I'm not saying / implying EF / you are doing that - but, I think you'll find, that that 'attitude of entitlement' (ok, I bought 'Pangolin' and laser and galvo, now gimme everything I can't 'buy'...) 'Sam' showed in the story, is what tends to 'grate' on the folks upon whos backs - we're ALL 'standing-on'...
OK - I'll say the same thing to you I said to EF - from my perspective - this is 'offensive' - from the persepective of every 'seasoned laserist' (5-10 yrs+) I know, NO ONE considers themselves 'elite' - NO ONE!!!
Do you know who Scott Anderson is? No, probably not. Well, he is the laserist responsible for much of the award-winning - heck, forget award-winning - MIND BLOWING, TEAR-JERKING, LIFE-ALTERING laser animations / abstracts / fx and shows done at Laser Images / Laserium - - and you'd NEVER KNOW IT, meeting him. The guy is TOTALLY humble and the coolest, most down to earth guy you'd ever wanna meet. And the same-goes for Steve Shapiro, Tim Barrett, Brian, etc, etc - what I LEARN from these guys - with 10+ years on me (and I have been doing shows for 17 years) is humility. THEY are the 'quiet' ones...
So, calling seasoned laserists "elite" - and in "quotes", which implies you're "quoting them" / ascribing to them that THEY have / project that 'attitude' - is offensive, in my book. Especially coming from the 'relative' n00bs here (ie: you don't have 15+ years working with lasers / doing shows, am I right? - yet I know that what you know about programming - that I don't - could probably fill a small room - - and yet, I don't 'insult' you by referring to you or others, as a 'h4x0r', just because you know programming)
And just because someone IS a 'storehouse' of info, does NOT make them a 'hoarder' of info - is Steve Roberts an 'elitist hoarder' of info, in your mind??
Can you see my point? OR have I 'completely misunderstood you', too, and your comments were really just all-about respecting / showing appreciation for those backs, upon which even you are standing? Please, clarify WHO you are talking about, so we don't have to go down the same 'path of misunderstanding', if you are really only talking about ONE Co. (vs truly making a broadband statement, as you have...)
