    It is more condensation you need to watch at very low feed water temperatures, the passbank has a nasty tendency to collect condensation that then drips into the control electronics and makes a right mess.

    You could rig a controlled water temperature setup but it would need a pump and a mixing valve to inject fresh cold water as needed to maintain loop temperature.

    Use a "calorfier". It is a circular metal tank, with a coil of tubing running through it. The hot water from the laser goes through the spiral tube and heats the water in the tank.

    50 degree water will cause no ill effects as long as you are running the laser. if you leave the water on and go home for the night condensation "could" be a problem if the air temperature is below the dew point.

    Will leaving the water inside the head have any ill effects? I suspect draining the head would be a better option if the head is stored for a longer period of time, just because of the gunk that may be in it.

    If you need a closed-loop chilled on the quick, how about using dry ice? Get the calorifier and fill it with the stuff, when you're lucky, you get a bunch of low fog for free ... Downside is that it's a little risky to handle (freeze burns, use gloves!) and on the expensive side.

    i would drink water from a flowing river, i would not drink the water from a stagnant pond.

    so yes is the laser is to sit for a week or more drain the water

    bacteria/algae love to grow in closed loop laser systems, and the pump light provides energy, and the tubing is slowly edible. We always gently blow out the water with air before transit, and then dose the laser with a ounce or two of automotive antifreeze or methanol. This also protects the glass to metal seal at the anode cooling block, which is one place they like to corrode if stored wet or used with excessively pure water.

    Watch out for "waterhammer" with the glass tubes.

    BTW, ion lasers do not like the perfectly pure water a YAG likes, the glass to metal seals corrode in perfectly pure water from interactions with other metals.
