OK, now remeber I am no expert on this and please marconi, spec, gabriel etc please correct me if there is a better choice.

I was looking at the DPM1102

I am looking for the best bang/buck crystal in the >50mw range. The casix are rated at around 60mw, and I am guessing they can be pushed a little harder.

What experience do we have of this, marconi have you used them before ?

Is there a better purchase, maybe a more expensive unit with a lower qty discount break, what do you think.

Do we need the 1.5mm aperture?

From my measurements using digital verniers, the aperture in a traditional leadlight seems to be 1.5mm square, so perhaps we do.

Do we have any information on what kind of quantity discount we would be getting? (Please PM this as Casix understandably may not want their offers publicised, I suggest any member who is interested should post asking about it.)

And can we get what I'd call scoped research? (The next cheapest and next most expensive option on either side, to illustrate the functionality for price and a general market set of options). I'd be interested to know what the next level of crystal power is and how much it costs.

    Check out this
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=7506341902

    He is real...Thats "Bethal"
Raw Casix crystals..I dont think these are the MCA style with mirrors tho
I think I remember seeing these sold by the box on ebay...not sure.

    Gold...
..those are the ones I have used..like them a lot.
And yes , they will do much more than the 60mw..

    Gab..
...Dont worry about that...they are just a bit odd sized crystals
    Still workable

Remember , we still want a small pump spot size..abt 30 to 50 microns.
Which the is done by the pump optics...
Now ...the thing to do next is get some 808nm 500mw TO-3 .

I have been thinking on buying up some from my vendor at 100.00 a piece .
He also has 1w ones too at 150.00 and 2 w ones at 300.00 USD each.
I have not tried his out yet , but if they are like the SDL ones I have.
These are the TO-3 sytyle case...
It should be easy to get at least 60mw with 500mw drive out of the Casix .
You can direct drive the crystals , you will get green , but...
The beam divergence and profile will suffer..as well as efficiency.
If you can be happy with that go ahead.

Also, remember...every crystal is different but very close if they came from the same boule (formed crystal before they're sliced and diced into wafers).
So some will vary in output as you can imagine.

    Also,
They are in a TO-3 package that might be a little hard for some people to use..
I rather like that style.. very easy to make a heatsink and TEC cool them.
I am working on getting the 9mm cans
I am still negotiating a price for the 9mm cans..Stay Tuned

So, If you are good with optics and know what your doing ..
You can too , can get some good results as I have.
Finding the right pump optics will be the next hurdle!!!
And then the packaging...getting ride of the heat is next.

If you all are real serious...
I might just buy up some more diodes for your experimentation
Diodes and Casix ,.. humm... lighting up the ROCKS

Why not go straight to Casix and drop the middle man? I'd be up for one as well. Piggy bank allowing.

I have quotes from the EU distributor re quantity discounts - We'd need to buy a lot of crystals to see any significant discount however. Would be interested to hear what the US distributor says.

Will someone who has a contact at Casix get some prices ?

If not I will do it but I have no track history with them.

I did call them, right before my my "medical condition" decided to screw with me.

They cut discounts for whole wafers. (80 to 100 rocks a wafer)

I know its not really a "wafer" but thats my computer terminology kicking in again.

They were cool before JDSU ate them and fired their smart and helpful employees

Heres what Im trying to do now. I always thought the barrels in the PGL3's were impressive, so im trying to track down the source

I hope I can find them.
