Ultimately, cheaper production means the potential for bigger margins. Whether you choose to make more money per unit or be more competitive on pricing is up to you.

To not increase margin when you have the opportunity seems like an opportunity missed to me.

John, in the UK you could produce quite a lot of mounts each year before you had to start paying tax on the income due to tax thresholds and allowances. Of course, your business wouldn't just be making mounts...

For what it's worth, I've never once said Pats mounts are expensive, I bought some previously and would buy more. But the issue here is about production costs, and in particular we've gone a bit off track talking about Edisons process. Andy is right (bloody hell, there it is again!) when he says it's about making sure your profit margin is enough to be sustainable.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I don,t need a bigger margin, my goal always have been to deliver a good product and find customers that are willing to pay the extra for service, warrenty etc. Your suggestion is to create a bigger margin by doing the metal in china so when the market shifts to a lower level of pricing i also can do things cheaper. But if i bring the metalworks to china and everyone does the same my neighbour that works at the local metalshop losses his job. Because China pulls the market down in therms of pricing Kvant also lowered their prices. Did they sell more, no they sold less and with doing the metal in their own factory for the same price they made less profit. HB laser is taken over by Laserworld, why? because china can do things so cheap that they couldn,t stay in bussiness from selling a few projectors. They had to compete with laserworld and to survive they joined the laserword group. Laseworld is known for selling China crap and goes for the biggest margin. That is why they sell OPT projectors.

I already get some bits made in China. The only cock ups have been through me making assumptions that they'd do what was logical, rather than me saying specifically what i wanted. Lesson learned, but still cheaper than buying my own mill.

So you give advice to John to get them manufactured in the UK while your going to china to do your metalwork instead? Why not ask Andy-con?

Let me guess it was cheaper..........

The margin is sustainable but not if everyone buys from china. When you need to compete with china or other low wage country and you need to lower your prices to that level where everyone losses. My neighbour losses his job since i shifted the metalwork to china. After while china drops the prices even more to a level that i can,t stay in bussiness since the living expences are higher then in china. No one gives a fuck untill they loose their job because their work is shifted to china aswell.

Talk to anyone who has any knowledge of commerce anywhere - under bidding, under cutting, and screwing your competition because of FEAR does NOTHING but cheapen the entire industry as a whole, lowering the perceived value of your talents or service you provide. Less perceived value, less revenue for your service. It is a spiraling decay that surely leads to destruction of the entire industry including the individuals involved in it. (mom & pops compared to wal-mart). Profits & margin in excess is the opposite side of that coin usually driven by greed, screwing people for personal gain so your stack of "money" is higher than the next guys. Your stack will never be large enough when motives are driven by greed, you will succeed in the quest to have the largest stack until some other greedy bastard comes in and undercuts you...a vicious circle of fear & greed. The funniest thing about these human "qualities" is that is all done under the guise of "money" or "profits" or "margin". A print out of digital bits or a bunch of paper with dead presidents on them, or in the euros case...one hell of a fucking ugly ass reptilian bitch. Sell your fellow man out for little stacks of paper, screw your fellow man for little pieces of paper. All under the guise to keep the minds of mush of humans busy, asleep, slaving to making "money" to pay our taxes to imposed tyrannical authority so they do not see that they are working their lives away to pay for war to kill people.

Edison, I wasn't telling John to manufacture in the UK. John isn't looking to manufacture a thing as far as I cantell for a start. I was simply commenting on his reference to tax evasion being a felony in the US and people should be paying taxes on the income. Do keep up, and try and read all the posts Edison

Yeah, well... This place really IS sort of an extended... at times dysfunctional... "family" that I often enjoy more than my own.

Actually, that is something that we may need to discuss. It's been bounced around some with edison and MIKIILLL too. But yeah, "something" around 3 watts needs to be in my future.
