The best "Bang For Your Buck" I can see right now is the 642nm 5.6 cans at 150mW or the 550nm C-mount diodes @ 1W although we are talking a 200X1um emitter. We just may have to wait for technology to progress on this one. Hey! Maybe someone can go work for Casio and convince them to come out with 24 1W 642nm diodes for their newest projector!

best bang for bucks is the open can diodes 815 its only £3. the 150mw 642nm is £120

I have to agree with 300evil, 150mW 640nm is the best bang for the buck, of you go the 655nm you need double the hardware to get to the same result.

Double the hardware = extra driver, collimator, mount, mirror, mirror mount etc. this is more expensive than a 640nm diode.

Al we need to do is a groupbuy of 640nm diode to get the price low.

I heard rumors of 150mW 640nm far below the 100 euro, but you need quantities.

On PL only people bought more than 250 445nm diode. to balance a 445nm diode you need minimum 4x 150mW. So PL needs 1000 640nm diodes to go with the 250 445nm diodes.

I'm sure we can get a hell of a deal if we can reach the 1000pcs.

Ah OK, couldn't quite see that from the spec sheet. It does look they have, or are working on a 500mW diode in the ML5xx71 range for mini-beamer applications.

No...I have had the 635 stuff... it would be nice to get at a source of diodes only...of a better beam data...like 650 or 660nm. If it has a beam that is resonably tamed without spend 4 times the diode cost in optics...might go with that. That was the point. Guess I should have been more clear on what I had in mind......have not gotten over being spoiled by the price of blue.

Its not 635 its multiwatt 642 in the projector.
