I may be a bit backwards, but I really think that all the connections to laser diodes should be well soldered in place unless absolutely necessary to have a connector.

the systems we have built have the socket but also a retaining ring that secures the diode tightly against the socket. never had a problem with those.

these sockets for 5.6mm cans wheres the cheapest place to get em?
