    Default A new project... Realtime laser video conferencing...

    Right now we're still working on tuning the realtime tracing... but
    you can see the software portion here...

    We're conferencing across states, my friend (the big image) is
    located in St Louis, and I'm in California... I'm the guy you can
    actually see. Ignore my voice, i feel really dorky.

    And no it's not really meant to be practical, I figure if you
    want something video, just buy a video projector... we're just
    horsing around .

    Very Kewl Ken Son...

    I was wondering when somebody was gunna start doing that...

    Wow...just think of the Kewl apps you can do with this,,.
    I can imagine walking into a club showing lasers and seeing myself
    on the screen in real-time as I walk-in ..that would be freaky.

    Definately better than the Oh-hum images everyone else would have.

    This is what makes being a Laserist ... Imagination.
    And having something different...makes them want to come back
    to see more...

    Yeah, once upon a time I did professional shows, I guess quite a few years
    ago now, but really wasn't having very much fun or doing anything interesting...

    LAME! LAME! LAME!

    This was supposed to be a "morale booster" for a company who just
    got bought out and fired a bunch of employees.

    We built a custom show for them, but the execs kept asking us to
    turn the power down and down and down because it was distracting
    people from the terribly lame slideshow! I bet the employees were
    all thinking "Oh my god, this looks really expensive! Couldn't they just
    just skip this and fire less people"

    Oh btw... I have a revised circuit for voltage correction for the blanking control
    on the maXYZ circuit which should work for all people!



    I drew this user friendly (non-technical) diagram for others in case they
    are interested. Basically it's an optoisolated circuit where you can
    select your drive voltage for modulation by adjusting the pot.

    Very nice mod...
    Very interesting indeed...
    We use an opto-isolator inside the module as well...
    It is an A/C input darlington device. 330ohms at the input.

    Altho, I have not had any problems with driving it with the Alphalite system
    with the addition of your circuit , that makes it more universal.

    Heh, the original behavior wasn't actually bad at all. There was
    a faint red glow when blanked, but when I found out that you can
    safely drive it at higher voltages and completely extinguish the beam
    I just had to do it

    I've noticed a small range of voltage which allows analog modulation.
    Any ideas if it's safe to play around with it or are you using some
    complex current control with feedback which could cause problems.

    Hi Yadda,...

    Nope,.. No problem at at running it analog...
    Since any voltage applied will only allow the beam to extinquish
    instead of the other way around (like in other mothodes of modulation)
    they make the beam brighter with modultaion...
    Go ahead and try it..shouldnt hurt it at all...

    The way my circuit was setup was to allow any voltage (after the threshold range)...shut the laser down...
    anything up to +15volts is ok...

    We made them so they cant be blown-up..Hopefully

    If you want , You may try some audio in parrallel from a speaker
    maybe a cap in series..should kinda work...
    I've only put sinewaves and squarewaves thru it , but dont
    see why audio shouldnt work...
    Of course, You may have to bias it some to turn on the diodes slightly
    to make the audio clean...who knows..

    The possiblities are endless

    I'm rigging this to a DAC based blanking channel to see what it can do
    If I'm lucky I'll get consistant shades of red
