If you think it'd be feasible, and Andy didn't mind someone else taking over, I'd be willing to volunteer to put in some time and effort.

However, I've never organised a GB, I'm in the UK, and I have no contact in Mitsubishi, so perhaps I'm not ideal to organise the whole thing. I'm open to ideas though.

    I want 500mW of 638nm baaaad

    ANDY !!!!!

POOP OR IT'S OFF THE POT. You killed another potential GB with yours.

Get real and post about the DIODE GB. Period. We don't need no F@*&'N lenses.
I've been nice along with ME3. Now get with it.

Guys, I share your frustration... However these GB's are not run for profit, are a pain in the a$$ to orchestrate and require much personal time.

I believe the last point is key for Andy right now and he has said as much. I don't believe Andy has even the free time to catch up on PL everyday (like some of us are doing). I can imagine Andy getting back to PL to find a string of messages which kind of assume he's ignoring them.

Now in all fairness to us, Andy should probably not have taken this on, but in all fairness to Andy, he may not have realized how little personal time he'd have available to undertake this.

I therefore suggest that for those who want to benefit from bulk pricing to be patient and wait until conditions are perfect for this to eventuate, and for those who are in a hurry, to arrange their own single purchases.

I for one would not be interested unless there is a demonstrated optic solution to make these torches more manageable.

Hemlock Mike, please buy one, do the science and help us determine whether a GB is worthwhile?

I have committed to purchase ONE diode without question --- This is a GB and Andy has 200+ orders in hand by his own word. I have no connection to his supplier so don't tell me to get one alone. ME3 and I have been waiting for feedback on the DIODE GB and seeing delays about lenses not related in the original GB offering.

PHOOY- If diodes are available soon, Andy, email me. for now I'm gone.

Mike I seriously doubt if there will even be a GB for more than 50 diodes if there isn’t a usable optical solution to go with them. A lot of the posted interests here (like mine with up to 4 pcs.) are coupled to an optical solution, not everyone has a shit load of lenses, or even the time, to experiment with this diode. My personal minimal expectations for a single corrected diode would be a total loss of max. 15-20% with a max. beam size at the aperture of <3,5-4mm and a divergence <1.5mrad. Beyond this it just wouldn’t be worth it.

So, I’m FOR waiting on optical results!

    Guys,

How many times do I have to tell you that I am extremely busy, a GB is to help you with costs, I am not forcing you to pay less.

Want them faster then we can order then faster but I advise to wait till I have this little mount sorted. Didnt see anyone jumping in to help with the mount I wrote about on my last post.

The solution I have will work a treat and you don't have to shell out loads of cash for it. All you have to do is be patient and read the posts I make before starting to use impolite sentences that just piss me off..

If somebody wants to take over this job then feel free, then will be even longer catch up delays and likely higher costs.

Simply I am busy like crazy on some large projects one of which involved quite a lot of setup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyvF8zireeY , for me its not only a hobby.

I was away for a week and this is my first time back home today. If you don't mind I would like also to have some spare time at home.

Some have offered to pay and I will be updating the list but still we are very short of 100 to make even the first break point. So it all balls down to seeing the test results and if you don't want to wait then don't wait and get of my back with your demands.

Also, boffins with the 40um fear make me laugh as 40um is small. Its like bigger than an opnext but still very small and very usable as you will see soon from a certain projector producer who is starting to use the Mitsu diode. Top companies using fiber optics use cables with a beam exit of 25-50 um and manage perfect beams..

Apologies for my impatience Andy. If there's anything you think I could help with, drop me a PM.

This is very interesting. Do you know what sort of timescale we can expect these projectors to hit the market?

    No, it was insider info.

again, if we are going to see these in projectors do you think a GB makes sense?

Or would it be advisable to wait and see what the extraction cost from the finished projector would be?

an example would be the 445 diodes, no group buy here could have been big enough to get them down to the cost of extracting them from the Casio projectors...
